Bent’s Bites: A&M @ MSU

What an exciting time to be in the SEC West, and what an exciting time to be a Mississippi State Bulldog!

Six out of seven SEC West teams are currently ranked in the top 15, and Mississippi State jumped up from 14th to 12th this week just watching football on TV!

Another thriller on the schedule this week as we get the 6th ranked Aggies from Texas A&M at home in Davis Wade in the third annual Way-too-much-Maroon Bowl.

Kenny “Trill” Hill is hoping to lead the Aggies to a 6-0 start at the expense of our Bulldawgs, who are likewise hoping to reach 5-0 this week.

To accomplish this, he’s going to have to be better at quarterbacking that he is a picking nicknames. “Trill?” Really? Why not go with Kenny Thrill or pretty much anything else that most people actually know the definition of? In case you didn’t know, “trill” is a slang term for someone who gets respect because they keep it “true and real.” You gotta remember that Kenny is only a sophomore. By the time he graduates, no one may even remember what that means other than “a quavering, vibratory, or warbling sound” (from the actual non-urban dictionary). Coincidentally, that is the exact type of sound I’m hoping Preston Smith, Chris Jones, and company manage to cause Kenny Trill to emit on Saturday.

Aside from the magnitude of the game itself, there is more to be excited about in Starkville this weekend. It’s Bulldog Bash weekend. The featured performer at the concert Friday night is Justin Moore, who has had 8 #1 hits on the country charts that I’ve never heard. Maybe it’s just my perspective, but that seems like a bit of drop off after The Black Crowes. That notwithstanding, Bulldog Bash is always a blast.

Oh, and SEC Nation is coming. Marcus Spears, Joe Tessitore, Paul Finebaum, and Tim Tebow will be in The Junction for the live broadcast two hours prior to the game. It ain’t ESPN College GameDay, but we’ll certainly take it. If we play our cards right, we might get GameDay the next week. I’d just like to say that if you’ve ever had the urge to chunk something hard and heavy at Paul Finebaum’s head (and let’s face it — who hasn’t?), there will be opportunity, so please resist lest you embarrass your university on national TV.

Here’s my breakdown of what’s going to happen in the game:

Will they be able to run the ball on us? No. Will we be able to run the ball on them? Yes. Will we be able to throw the ball on them? Yes, some. Will they be able to throw the ball on us? Well, there’s the sticking point. Our run offense and run defense will go a long way in getting us the W in this one, but what will seal the deal is our pass rushers getting in Kenny’s face and our corners and safeties taking away his downfield targets. If that happens, the Bulldawgs dominate. If not, it could be a long afternoon.

I’m extremely excited and cannot wait for Saturday to get here! The weather forecast looks like it’s going to be a fantastic day for tailgating and for football. Our team is playing awesome and is facing off against another very talented team which should make for a great game. I’ve got a new cowbell from battlebells.com that is in desperate need of breaking in. (Yes, they really are that nice, and they really are way louder than my other cowbells. Plus, they just have a much more pleasant and satisfying tone to the clang. I recommend them.) Saturday cannot get here fast enough!

Of course, I’ve done some customization on mine.

Hail State!
