Week 5 of SEC play is here – Mississippi State will not be participating on the field today so the team will join us all in watching the rest of the conference play ball.

Here’s the schedule:

11:00 – Tennessee at Georgia (-17) on ESPN

This game was really tight last year and went to overtime. UGA was my pick to win the national championship – I still think they can accomplish that feat even after stumbling in Columbia. It will be really interesting to see if Georgia can actually handle the Vols by 17 points. UT has looked improved, and they are a lot better than I thought they’d be – it will be interesting to see if they can hang close for four quarters.

11:00 – Vanderbilt at Kentucky (-17) on SEC Network

Vandy looked a little better last week – is that something that will continue? Kentucky hasn’t won a SEC game since Tennessee in 2011, a span of 17 games.

2:30 – #6 Arkansas vs. Texas A&M (-9) on CBS (at Jerry’s World in Dallas)

This is the game of the week and the one all MSU fans will be watching with the Aggies coming to Starkville in Week 6. Texas A&M has done really well defensively but against sub-par competition. Arkansas has done really well offensively but against sub-par competition. Now the two meet. The two things I’ll be looking for are 1) how well does Arkansas’ O-line handle A&M’s D-line and 2) is the recipe for success against Kevin Sumlin grinding the clock out on the ground?

3:00 – Louisiana Tech at #5 Auburn (-32) on SEC Network

Auburn should win this one handily as they prepare for LSU at home and MSU on the road in the next two weeks.

6:00 – Missouri at #13 South Carolina (-5) on ESPN

College Game Day will be in Columbia (SC that is). This game would have been a lot bigger if Mizzou would be beaten Indiana and stayed in the top 20. It should still be a good game.

6:30 – New Mexico State at #17 LSU (-43) on SEC Network

NM State is the unlucky team who goes into Baton Rouge vs. a ticked off Bayou Bengal bunch.

6:30 – Memphis at #10 Ole Miss (-21) on Fox Sports Net

This could be an interesting game for a while. It should be a nice prepper for the Rebs with Bama coming in Week 6.
