The Way I See It – Week Five

facebooktwitterreddit

Wow what a week we had in week four.  Mississippi State beat LSU down in their own building and I was wrong – and I am glad I was.

Yes, Dillon Day was suspended, but it’s great to be an MSU Bulldog is it not?  The Bulldogs have week five off and have a chance to reset, but we don’t take weeks off here.

There are some good games out there so lets see whats on tap.

Last Week: 3-2  Yearly Picks: 16-7

Tennessee at No. 12 Georgia

Butch Jones is slowly building Tennessee back into a player in the East, but still has a ways to go.  He is literally playing 80% freshman and sophomores at this point.

Georgia continues to be Georgia – a team that looks like a contender one week, then falls flat the next.  Georgia is the one team from the East that has the ability to run the table and get back in the playoff talk.  Look for the Dawgs to be dialed in between the hedges.

Missouri at No. 13 South Carolina

Game Day is here this weekend.  Let that sink in as you wonder has their ever been a more ho-hum location for them to pick or game? Missouri had everything going their way until they crapped the bed last week at Indiana.

Steve Spurrier threw his team under the bus last week after a sloppy Vanderbilt win.

This game was a classic last year in Mizzou, with the Gamecocks winning in overtime.  Everything in me wants to pick Missouri this time around, but it is in Carolina and I expect the Gamecocks to respond after the tongue lashing the ole ball coach gave them.

No. 11 UCLA at No. 15 Arizona State

It’s a Pac-12 showdown between the Bruins and Sun Devils this weekend and this is a game you probably don’t want to miss.  Outside the SEC, the Pac-12 is the best conference in college football.

Much like the SEC, the Pac-12 will now start deciding its hierarchy by default.  UCLA was a preseason darling, but has struggled at times.  The Sun Devils have rolled their competition thus far.

Right now it looks like the Devils are a much better team and should show that this Saturday.

Northwestern at Penn State

Ok, before you just throw my column in the mud for this game of choice hear me out.  I know it’s Big-10 football and I know neither team is ranked, but James Franklin is 4-0 at State Penn and could have the only team in that conference of making the College Football  Playoff.

Franklin’s turnaround in year one at State College is impressive, but we all knew he could coach.

Look for the Nittany Lions to keep the train rolling and get into the top 25.

Arkansas at No. 6 Texas A&M (AT&T Stadium)

This is a very intriguing matchup and one every Mississippi State fan should tune in for.  Arkansas seems much improved and A&M seems to be A&M.

It is run versus pass and it will be interesting to see how the Hogs run the ball on the Aggies.  If the Hogs have success, look for Mississippi State to take a similar approach next week.

Overall, A&M is still more talented and I take Kevin Sumlin over Brett Bielema  any day.
