Bent’s Bites – Memphis @ umiss

facebooktwitterreddit

Have you heard? ESPN College Game Day is coming to Oxford! Game Day will be in the grove next Saturday for the Alabama game at umiss for an epic clash of two top-ten ranked teams! Surely you’ve heard. That’s pretty much all any umiss fans are talking about.

They’re all fired up talking about the Bama game. Or they’re talking smack about Dillon Day’s suspension. Y’know what they’re not talking about? Heck, I don’t think they’re even thinking about the fact that they also have a game this week, too. From all I’m seeing in online banter, I don’t believe the Memphis Tigers rolling into Oxford this Saturday has even crossed their minds. Personally, I’m hoping it’s not just the fans. I’m hoping it’s the team and the coaches, too. Because if umiss sleeps on a much-improved Memphis squad and gets caught looking ahead to Bama, SEC Nation and College Game Day might both be covering the Texas A&M – Mississippi State from The Junction next week.

Is it even remotely realistic to think that Memphis might pull this one out? Let’s take a look at what Vegas has to say. Memphis opened as a 24-point underdog, but apparently too many people were taking Memphis to cover. That spread dropped to 18 fairly quickly. I’m no handicapper, but I’d say probably 20 points is a reasonable expectation. Memphis is 2-1 on the season so far, easily handling Austin Peay and Middle Tennessee. They also kept up with UCLA, only losing 42-35 at The Rose Bowl. Memphis, this year, is apparently much better than they were the last 5-6 years. They should not, however, be able to compete with the very talented team umiss has this year. Unless, of course, umiss is cocky and arrogant enough to completely overlook them with Bama coming the following week. And we all know that umiss has never been accused of being arrogant, right?

So, without a game of our own this week, aside from pulling for the Memphis Tigers, what else is there for us Bulldawg fans to do?

Well, we can write, petition, blog and do whatever else there is to do to support Dillon Day. There’s this petition you can sign.

I’m personally fairly troubled by the SEC as this point, and here’s why:

"In a statement explaining its decision, the SEC wrote, “This action is the result of multiple flagrant and unsportsmanlike acts during the game…”"

Yet only one flag was thrown? Is the SEC taking action against these referees? Are they being fined? Fired? Seriously, we should get rid of refs that can’t officiate any better than that. Someone could get hurt.

So, to sum up:

Go Tigers!

Free Dillon Day!

Hail State!
