The Way I See it – Week Three
Week two was a very casual stroll through the woods week in the SEC, but there were some surprises in the league and around the country. UAB was able to light up Mississippi State’s defense, Virginia Tech and Oregon all but eliminated the Big-10 from the college football playoff – already!
And there’s the head scratching that is Dan Mullen’s quarterback substitution.
Week three is upon us and for many teams around the league; this is the last week before jumping into major conference play. So let’s get right to the big games of the week.
Week Two Predictions: 3-2 Yearly Predictions: 10-3
No. 12 UCLA at Texas
My how the mighty have fallen in Texas; a once proud program with an athletic budget bigger than the size of the Longhorn state, a recruiting base that is second to none and a national brand, but none of that seems to matter at this time.
BYU walked into Texas last week and absolutely destroyed the Longhorns.
Their opponent this week – the UCLA Bruins were a media darling in the preseason and a pick for the inaugural college football playoff. Last week Memphis did everything they could to upset the Bruins, but came up just short.
So will the real slim shady please stand up? Is it Texas’s time to rebound or is UCLA for real?
I hate your Uniforms UCLA 37 Everything’s bigger now at Texas A&M 20
Arkansas at Texas Tech
Talk about contrast in styles. You have the 3-yards and a cloud of dust style of Arkansas, versus the throw it around style of Tech.
The Red Raiders are out to show they can compete at a high level in the Big-12. Arkansas wants to show they are much better and will compete in the west.
One can’t stop the run – the other can’t stop the pass. This should be a fun game to watch.

Tennessee at No. 4 Oklahoma
I’ve heard some national media actually buying in to Tennessee this week as they prepare to head to Norman Oklahoma. Yes, the Volunteers are 2-0 and yes they seem to be on the right track as Butch Jones looks to rebuild that program. But, unless Peyton Manning and Peerless Price are on the plane, this was just a stupid game for the Volunteer’s to schedule.

No 6 Georgia at No. 24 South Carolina
I tell everyone every year, this is a must watch game and if you are not watching this ballgame, you are missing out.
These two play one of the best football games yearly and while at face value it would seem that’s not the case this year – I’d truly be shocked if this game wasn’t another classic.
Yes Georgia looked great in week one against Clemson and yes South Carolina looked like hot trash against A&M – and, East Carolina.
But, Carolina has players, a great staff and a boisterous home crowd behind them.
Georgia has all the makings of a college football playoff team. This will be a big test and tough environment for Georgia quarterback Hutson Mason. I like the Dogs in this one, but it is way closer than many think.

Mississippi State at South Alabama
The Bulldogs of Mississippi State looked good at times last week, then not so good. Any time you give up over 500-yards of total offense to a team that is NOT good.
Dan Mullen continues to play rotate the quarterback and that obviously is screwing with the offenses rhythm. I get it, I really do – get your young quarterbacks time during the most important part of games. Getting Williams time while up 40-00 does nothing.
However, If I see a trend of scoring with Prescott and crapping the bed with Williams, I let Williams stay on the sideline.
Many feel this has upset potential written all over it. South Alabama will be entertaining their first ever BCS type team, a sellout crowd and more.
I get all that but, Mississippi State played bad last week and still won by a fair margin. I’m sure practice and meetings this week haven’t been kind to Will Redmond or that defense. I fully expect the Bulldogs to be all business this week as they gear up for conference play.
Keep Prescott in DAMNIT 47 Is there really a Jaguar in South Alabama 17
