The Way I see it – Week Two

facebooktwitterreddit

Week one is officially in the books and what a week it was.  We saw domination, surprise and things that went about how we thought they would.

Week two offers a different set of games, filled with a total snoozer in the Southeastern Conference.  I would be shocked if any SEC team was upset this weekend, but there are some great games nationally to take a look at.  So without further ado, let’s check it out.

Week One Predictions: 4-1  Yearly Predictions: 4-1

No. 14 USC at No. 13 Stanford

At first glance, one would just assume USC has dominated Stanford over time and for the most part that is true, 60-29-3.  However, the overall average score of these two are 23-16 in favor of USC.

USC snapped a four game losing streak against the Cardinal last year 20-17 and if Steven Sarkisian’s Trojans are going to make it two in a row, they have their work cut out for them on the road this weekend.

Both teams had impressive week one wins and both teams seem to be in position to make a run for the Pac-12 Championship.

It should be another good one between the Cardinal and Trojans.  Look for turnovers and special teams to play a key in this one.

No. 7 Michigan State at No. 3 Oregon

This game represents a playoff game within the playoff system.  One of these two teams will gain an inside track to the first ever college football playoff.  One team is lightning fast on offense and can score; one team is big and physical on defense.

This is truly mono-A-mono this weekend at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon.

Game Day will be on hand and those in Green and Gold will be too much to handle for a very good Spartan ball club.

Virginia Tech at No. 8 Ohio State

It’s under the lights at the Horse Shoe as Urban’s Buckeyes take on Franks Hokies.  Virginia Tech had a nice week one win and look to have a playmaker in quarterback Michael Brewer.  Brewer threw for 251-yards and rushed for another 21 against William and Mary, but he won’t be playing W&M this weekend.

Ohio State had serious issues in week one versus Navy, but quarterback J.T Barrett settled down and threw for 226-yards in his first college start.

Urban Meyer is a heck of a football coach and he knows his Buckeyes are in the thick of the college football playoff race and can ill afford to slip up.

Michigan at No. 16 Notre Dame

This will be the forty-second meeting between the Wolverines and Irish and likely the last meeting for quite some time between the two, due to Notre Dame’s ACC football obligation set to begin next year.

The Wolverines have won six of the last eight against the Irish and hold the series lead 24-16-1.

For Brady Hoke (27-13 at Michigan), a win here would go a long way to helping sooth some of the criticism he is currently facing in Ann Arbor.

Notre Dame welcomes back quarterback Everett Golson and after week one against Rice, Golson looks poised to help the Irish make a playoff push.

The Domers are at home and it should be rocking.  It should be a great game between the Irish and Wolverines to conclude their series for a while.

UAB at Mississippi State

Mississippi State blasted USM in week one and while this matchup with UAB may end up the same way and some wonder why is this game here, well it’s my blog and when you get your blog you can chose your games too.  Every week the Bulldogs are here for the final take, unless they are off.

Mississippi State welcomes what looks to be an improved UAB team from a year ago as they dusted Troy in week one.

For the Bulldogs, it’s protecting the football, keep players healthy and continue to develop chemistry in the passing game and along the offensive line.  It would help if they could make a field goal or two this week as well.

Davis Wade should again be rocking as the Bulldogs celebrate their 32nd sellout.
