Prayers for Jameon & Family

Tragedy has struck one of our own. All of Maroon & White Nation’s hearts go out to Bulldog receiver Jameon Lewis and his family for the loss of his brother this past Sunday.

Tyriunce Lewis was shot and killed after an argument apparently turned violent at Oakhurst Apartments in Tylertown Sunday Morning. Tyriunce was airlifted to the hospital, but the gunshot wound to the head left little hope. He was pronounced dead at 1:24 pm Sunday. A suspect is in custody.

Losing a loved family member in such a sudden and tragic fashion is something that few of us can even fathom. The grief and pain that Jameon and his family are now having to endure is unimaginable. Perhaps Jameon’s own words say it best.

"Just as much he looked up to me, I looked up to him also!!!! #RipToot it’s my duty to make sure your children’s are everything they wanna be! I am my brothers keeper… #FlyHighBra [from Instagram]"

At a time like this, many in the Mississippi State family are reaching out to Jameon with words of sympathy and encouragement. Unfortunately there is not much more that we can do in such a situation but to offer love and respect. Jameon has offered these words of thanks for the love shown by his adopted Maroon family:

There is, of course, also the uncertainty as to what such life-altering events might bring to Jameon’s life on the field. Considering the magnitude of what has happened, it is only acceptable that all of us respect whatever decision Jameon makes regarding his football career. We have to show him the respect of giving him the time and the space to handle this family crisis that by far trumps football. We can hope that he finds loved ones to lean on that will give him the strength to work thru this. Perhaps he will look to teammate and quarterback Dak Prescott who has been no stranger to family tragedy for support. Concerning his continued on-field life, Jameon has had this to say:

One article reported that Tyriunce was an organ donor, so we know that even in the midst of this tragedy, in some way he will live on giving the gift of life to others. Even if that were not the case, we also know that in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, he always will.
