You probably don’t need me to refresh your memory on Dan Mullen’s Egg Bowl record. Everyone knows he is 4-1.

It’s his second best record against any SEC team (Kentucky, 5-0). Mullen has been able elevate the rivalry, have success in the rivalry and the Egg Bowl game has now reached the level of expectation it had 15 years ago.

2009

This still remains as the highest ranked team Mullen has beaten. Ole Miss came in 8-3 and ranked #20. Very few people expected to see what happened at Davis Wade that day. Chris Relf and Anthony Dixon ran all over the Rebels with 264 rushing yards between the two.

It was an incredible game to watch and one of the most satisfying wins for MSU in a while. 41-27.

After the game Mullen delivered a quick speech to the crowd that really energized the rivalry…

"I know one thing, there’s certainly one program in this state that’s definitely on the rise and going the right way!"

2010

More fun as Chris Relf ran wild again. Pretty much all his yards on the ground are in the video below, but he damaged OM with his arm throwing for 288 yards and 3 TD. LaDarius Perkins had a huge night with 319 all-purpose yards.

The final score was 31-23. State winning for the first time in Oxford since 1998. It wasn’t really as close as the score looked – MSU held a 31-9 lead going into the 4th quarter. The game was in doubt with under three minutes to play and Ole Miss had the ball, but the Bulldog defense snuffed out the final drive before it got going.

2011

This game was over before it started. Ole Miss was in a tailspin and had already fired Houston Nutt – MSU was looking for bowl eligibility at home on a rain-soaked Scott Field.

Vick Ballard ran for 144 yards in the game. It was 21-0 at the half, and the final was 31-3.

Aside from this being a landmark third straight win in the series for State, the final two plays – keeping the Rebs out of the endzone – might be the most memorable take away.

2012

A completely different Ole Miss team came into the 2012 Egg Bowl motivated under Hugh Freeze. MSU was 8-3 but like OM did in 2009, they would lose on the road in a game maybe they shouldn’t have.

Donte Moncreif exploded for 173 yards and 3 TD. Ole Miss owned the 2nd half and won the game 41-24.

2013

This was one of the more inspiring games of this series because of the way it happened. Bowl eligibility and bragging rights on the line, down to our 3rd string QB, but he manages to keep State in the game until Dak Prescott comes in for the 4th quarter to lead MSU to tie the game in regulation and win it in overtime.

Between the gutsy performance by Prescott and the stifling defense played by MSU, it was a game to remember.
