The media predictions for the 2014 season are out. Here is what you need to know about how they think the college football season in the SEC will play out:

SEC West

  1. Alabama
  2. Auburn
  3. LSU
  4. Ole Miss
  5. Mississippi State
  6. Texas A&M
  7. Arkansas

SEC East

  1. South Carolina
  2. Georgia
  3. Florida
  4. Missouri
  5. Tennessee
  6. Vanderbilt
  7. Kentucky

SEC Champion (number of points received)

  1. Alabama (154)
  2. Auburn (75)
  3. South Carolina (32)
  4. Georgia (19)
  5. LSU (9)
  6. Ole Miss (2)
  7. Mississippi State and Arkansas (1)

General Thoughts

  • The order of finish is almost exactly what I expected. Granted, that isn’t the way I would see them playing out, but it was how I thought the media would stack the teams up.
  • Yes, someone picked Arkansas to win the SEC.
  • Ole Miss is picked ahead of MSU because the Egg Bowl is in Oxofrd, and they have those recruiting classes. I’ve talked about this before.
  • The media has been picking the SEC champ and how the SEC would shake out 22 times. They have gotten the champs right four times. If they were a baseball batter, their average would be .182, so don’t get too worked up about this stuff.

All SEC Preseason Teams

I’m not going to list the entire first, second, and third teams (but you can find them here).  Since this is a Mississippi State site, I am just going to stick with the Bulldogs that were named to these teams.

  • Dak Prescott (2nd Team)
  • Bernardrik McKinney (2nd Team)
  • Chris Jones (2nd Team)
  • Jameon Lewis (3rd Team)

General Thoughts

Four Bulldogs get named to All SEC teams which is about what I thought they would have. Here are some things I think the media got right and where they are going to be slapping themselves in the forehead because some players got overlooked.

Dak was named 2nd team behind Nick Marshall and ahead of Bo Wallace. Marshall deserves top honors in the preseason for getting his team to the National Championship game, but I think Dak surpasses him this year.

I do think Dak is a better quarterback than Wallace, but Wallace should have a really good year. Neither fan base wants to believe that the opposing quarterback is going to amount to anything, but that’s a rivalry for you.

Chirs Jones has been on the 1st team for every preseason team I have seen, but he gets second here?

Despite Bernardrik McKinney being billed as a potential first round draft pick next year, he has almost always been listed on the second team.

The leading returning receiver for the SEC is on the third team. Good logic there. Jameon doesn’t agree with it either apparently.

Someone from the secondary should have been at least third team. My vote would have gone to Taveze Calhoun or Jamerson Love. I think our corners are going to step up big time this year.

And just in case you are interested, Ole Miss had 8 players named to all three teams.

Once again, these are just predictions. Some of them will stay the same and others won’t. I expect there to be at least one or two more Bulldogs on this list when they release them at the end of the year.
