Following an article by Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel laying out the complete background and future for the Ole Miss football program after their response to the NCAA’s Notice of Allegations, fans of the program have become arguably the most insufferable fanbase in the SEC this offseason.

If you don’t believe me, just look on twitter. Almost any Ole Miss fan you see on Twitter is yelling that the “Veteran SEC Coach” is most definitely Mississippi State’s head coach Dan Mullen. The quote in question is one that many fans have asked about this situation at Ole Miss. Well, everyone except for Ole Miss fans who believe that their punishment is going to be good enough for the NCAA, and are using the “Well everyone else is doing it!!!” excuse.

"“[Does the NCAA] stick to their guns like they said a few years ago and hold the head coach accountable?” asked a veteran SEC head coach. “Or is the NCAA going to wipe their hands of this? If they do, it’s going to turn college football into college basketball, which is a free for all. They need to make a damn statement, sooner or later.”"

Many have asked the question of whether or not the investigation is complete into the Ole Miss program. If you ask an Ole Miss fan, they’ll say it’s over and that there’s nothing to see here. Remind you of anything? I’d say it reminds me of this scene here. Now of course the explosion is a good metaphor for the Ole Miss football program, as the reputation of the program in the eyes of those around the country is in a full free-fall.

Now the real question you may be asking is, “How can a fanbase as a whole be so blind to the situation?” The answer is simple, they’re like ostriches who bury their heads in the sand at any sign of trouble. But instead of sand, they’re burying it into the narrative given by certain writers. Mississippi State fans know exactly who these writers are, but I’ll omit names to protect the innocent. But let’s take a look at twitter and see how Ole Miss fans are reacting to the article.

Matt Wyatt’s response to the tweet below:

Then Matt Wyatt decide to toss this out there on twitter:

The responses were absolutely magical

For reference, Lindsey Miller is the father to former Ole Miss OT Laremy Tunsil. If you remember, Tunsil is the player who infamously admitted that he had accepted cash from a coach at Ole Miss.

Now we know that twitter is where the vocal minority comes out the worst, but I’m sure there are some reasonable Ole Miss fans out there, right? Right? Bueller?
