POLL: How Many Wins Do You Expect in 2015?

facebooktwitterreddit

There has been so much talk about what the Bulldogs can do in the follow up to one of the greatest seasons in Mississippi State history. The fans believe this team is able to keep the ball rolling.

The rest of the country? Not so much.

When discussing the expectations surrounding Mississippi State, the media and the fans of the team don’t often agree with each other. But the distance between those expectations appears much wider. So let’s ask, how many wins do you expect this season?

The media has pegged the Bulldogs for last place in the division and around 6 wins. Some think the Bulldogs will eek out a 7th, and there are others who think getting bowl eligible in 2015 will be a tall order.

Fans see an elite quarterback surrounded by talent, even if it isn’t as experienced as the previous year’s team. They may not win 10 like they did in 2014, but many see the potential for 8 or 9 wins, and maybe a repeat of the 2014 season with a 10th or 11th not out of the realm of possibility.

Let’s face it, our expectations prior to a season define the way we feel about it. Many are still feeling the rush of adrenaline they had after the 2014 season simply because almost no one saw such a meteoric rise up the polls coming. If you’re expecting 8 or 9, and the Bulldogs only get to 6, how disappointed will you be?

The “Just give me the Egg Bowl” crowd
There is a segment of the fanbase, though growing smaller in numbers, which won’t be happy unless one of the wins is over Ole Miss. Though they weren’t large in numbers, there were some Mississippi State fans who still aren’t happy with 2014 simply because we didn’t beat Ole Miss.

I’ll be honest. I don’t understand this mentality. It’s great beating your biggest rival, especially when that rival is in the same state. But to hang your feelings of the season on that one game is mind blowing. If the Bulldogs went 1-11 but won the Egg Bowl in 2015, I’d be yelling from the rooftops about how inexcusable it would be. If the Bulldogs went 11-1, but the only loss was in the Egg Bowl, I’d be calling for Dan Mullen to be the National Coach of the Year. I don’t get this mentality, but I do know it exists.

So what’s it going to be? Vote in our poll and tell us in the comments section why you voted the way you did.
