Restaurant Tyler Vs. Veranda
We continue to narrow the field in our Great Starkville Restaurant Challenge. Up next are two restaurants that are relative newcomers to the restaurant scene in Starkville. It’s Restaurant Tyler Versus Veranda!
Restaurant Tyler
If you don’t know anything about Restaurant Tyler, here is a tweet of some of their brunch fare.
Yeah, if that doesn’t get your mouth watering, I don’t know what will. Here is how they describe themselves on their website.
"Although raised in the same Mississippi hometown, owners Ty Thames and Brian Kelley didn’t meet until randomly assigned to the same dorm as college roommates. The dream of one day opening a restaurant together was often mentioned in that tiny, cramped room. Several years later, a summer trip was planned to work in a Vermont restaurant and tour New England. Unplanned, Ty made the 2 month Vermont trip into a 2 year stay that included attending and graduating from, with distinction, the prestigious New England Culinary Institute, while Brian headed home to attend the University of Mississippi Law School. After graduation, Brian started a law practice in Starkville when the perfect spot came available for a restaurant. Ty, who was then working at a fine dining restaurant in Washington D.C. answered the call and soon enough, Bin 612 was born and the dream was a reality. The rest, as they say, is history…Ty and Brian now operate three restaurants in Starkville… Bin 612, Restaurant Tyler, and The Guest Room. Ty’s talents have been featured in a number of local, regional and national publications. The next time you are in Starkville, please come say hello and remember to Eat Local!"
The Veranda
The Veranda has made a name for itself in a very short amount of time as well. Here is some of the food you can expect at The Veranda.
Hard not to get hungry when you see that. If you want to know more about The Veranda, you can go to their website where you will read this.
"The Veranda is the brain-child of two ambitious guys, Jay Yates and Frank Jones, who decided at the turn of the century that Starkville needed a more progressive dining experience than was available at that time. Jay wanted to open a place where he could put his creative talents to use featuring a menu with the highest quality seasonal ingredients. After much planning and deliberation, The Veranda opened January 20, 2003 on a mission to provide a wide variety of top-flight food and beverage in a casual atmosphere while serving our guests with the best sense of southern hospitality and graciousness. From true soul food lunches featuring fried chicken, mashed potatoes, cream gravy, collard greens, cornbread, blackberry and peach cobbler, to flown in fresh Hawaiian tuna, Alaskan Copper River salmon, the highest quality Angus Steaks, and an inspired wine list to compliment the delicious food, there is something for everyone. Come join us at the Veranda where it is all about the food!"
