How many times have you heard other SEC fans say, ‘where will Dan Mullen be coaching next year’. The noise started after the 2010 season, then died down a bit, now it’s back in full force. Many, many people have suggested Will Muschamp will be fired at Florida leaving Mullen as the logical choice – and he would gladly accept. Four weeks ago I gave you 10 reasons why Mullen would NOT be the next coach at Florida.

I don’t think it’s an issue at all, but outsiders still hold their pre-conceived notions of Mississippi State and see us as a poor school that has stumbled upon success….so why would an elite coach want to stay at MSU? State fans know how much we’ve grown and how we are in the thick of the SEC competing for championships in every sport. As far as football goes – we’ve been #1 for FIVE weeks. Has there ever been a coach leave a school for a non-NFL job after such a year? The closest I can think of is Rich Rodriguez at West Virginia, who had the Mountaineers at #2 for the last week of the season before losing to Pitt and knocking them out of the BCS title game – he left for Michigan and we know how well that worked out.

Well, I won’t do any more convincing – let’s hear from Dan Mullen himself. Seth Davis interviewed Coach Mullen for Campus Insiders and here are some comments he made regarding a career move…

"I’ve had calls before, and I understand the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. I built this facility. I had a hand in where every door in this facility went and how we built this program from the ground up. I have a great administration, from a great president and Scott Stricklin, our athletic director. This program is built how I want a program to run.I think, a lot of times, you look and say, ‘Boy, is that really a better job?’ I know, in the perception, people say, ‘Boy, there’s no doubt that’s a better job,’ but in reality, I don’t know if that’s always the case. As my wife told me just the other night, we’re No. 1 in the country. Why would we want another (job)? Everybody wants this job, right? Right now, in college football, this is the ultimate destination job. We’re the No. 1 team in the country."
