Bent’s Bites – Bama @ umiss

Man! The insanity going on right now in the state of Mississippi over our college football! Two top twelve showdowns in OUR State on the same day! SEC Nation (and a whole bunch of other media types) camped out in Starkville and ESPN College GameDay from the grove! If you’re a sports fan or associate with them, you can feel it in the air. We’re all incredibly excited to host the Aggies in Davis Wade and exact a little revenge for the last two years as well as excited about what that win would propel us to. Over in Oxford, they’re incredibly excited to be hosting Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide.

For the life of me, though, I cannot figure out why! Judgement Day is coming!

And they say elephants never forget! Y’know who doesn’t? Google. I looked it up. 2003, the year they banned Colonel Reb as the on-field mascot, was the last time umiss beat Bama. The Curse of the Colonel or complete coincidence? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyway, it all started two weeks ago when Bama polished off the Gators.

Last week, umiss looked genuinely terrible on offense against Memphis! The top 10 (supposedly) team in the country, and the game is still in question with only 10 minutes left to go against Memphis! Nick Saban was watching that game during their bye week like:

Remembering what happened last year when QB Bo Wallace expressed to the media his belief that umiss could definitely put points up on Bama or anybody… head coach Hugh Freeze had a little talk with Bo.

Apparently, though, Freeze should have mentioned something to the rest of the team, specifically Cody Prewitt. Prewitt told the media:

"We understand that we haven’t played a team that’s going to be as good as Bama, but we don’t really think Bama is as good as they have been. And we’re better than we have been. We’re looking forward to getting to the game plan and really nailing down all the tweaks and stuff that we’re going to have to put into Bama."

If you want to get a feel for how Bama took this observation, you can check out this article on Bama’s counterpart to Maroon & White Nation, Bama Hammer.

I don’t want anyone to get the impression that I think umiss doesn’t have a lot of talent on their football team. I know they’re a good team, especially that defense. To me, though, they certainly have not once this season really looked like a #10 or #11 team in the nation, and they certainly don’t look ready for Bama.

Their fanbase’s excitement going into this game, to me, just looks a lot like someone dancing their way to their own execution. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna get beat like they stole something. Be sure and let me know if I’m wrong, though.
