Mississippi State has accomplished a number of things in Baton Rouge that they hadn’t done in a long, long time. Let’s name a few.

  • Beat LSU at Baton Rouge since 1991.
  • Beat LSU at a ll since 1999.
  • Beat a top 10 since 2000.
  • Beat a top 10 team ever under Dan Mullen.

How good LSU does down the stretch will play a big part in just how impressive this win really was, but it is nevertheless a performance that Mississippi State fans will remember for years to come. It was a completely dominating performance for about the first 56 minutes of the game, and then it looked like it might all fall apart at the end. The Bulldogs were able to hold on despite the furious comeback effort made by the LSU Tigers. Will the near collapse in the end hurt the overall marks on this week’s edition of the report card? A little, but not too much. It was a great performance and most of the team deserves to be adequately praised for doing something that many teams, not just Mississippi State, haven’t been able to do: beat a Les Miles coached team at night in Death Valley. LSU has lots of talent on their side of the ball, so no matter how young they are, this is still a big win for the Bulldogs and the entire school. As exciting as it is, the season is still young and there is a lot of football left to play. Time to turn this win into a program changing win. So let’s hand out the grades and see how everyone did.
