Great start to the season! There were a lot of (surprisingly) close games.

LSU 28, Wisconsin 24 -it looked for a while like the Tigers were going to lose, down 24-7 in the 2nd half. But like Les Miles team’s always seem to do, they came charging back with a couple of interceptions and won the game. It extended their nation-leading 46 regular season game non-conference winning streak.

Georgia 45, Clemson 21 – this one was closer than the score indicates. Clemson held tough for more than three quarters until the Bulldogs long list of ultra-talented running backs took over as they kept bringing in fresh legs. Todd Gurley had 198 yards rushing for 3 TD plus another 100 on a kickoff return for a TD.

Mississippi State 49, Southern Miss, 0 – MSU owned this ballgame from start to finish. USM made some defensive pushes stopping a first and goal and getting an INT, but the Bulldogs did everything else just right. The psycho defense was in full effect.

Auburn 45, Arkansas 21 – this game ended up the same score as the UGA/Clem game and had the same 21-21 score at halftime as well. Nick Marshall was suspended for the first half but Jeremy Johnson did really well substituting for him. Auburn wore Arkansas down in the 2nd half and they couldn’t recover even with a lengthy weather delay in the 4th quarter.

Missouri 38, South Dakota State, 18 – this one was close for a bit too long you might say. It was once 21-18 in the 2nd half before the Tigers pulled away. Maty Mauk threw for 178 yards and 3 TD.

Alabama 33, West Virginia 23 – the Mountaineers weren’t supposed to be this close but they were. WVU quarterback Clint Trickett threw for 365 yards and three touchdowns. Blake Sims played the entire game for the Tide and did pretty well. They game was never really in serious doubt despite the close score.

Kentucky 59, UT-Martin 14 – the Wildcats destroyed an inferior opponent….but considering they are 4-20 the last two years the margin was good to see for the Big Blue faithful I’m sure. UK had 656 total yards of offense.

Florida’s game with Idaho was terminated due to the weather. After a lengthy delay they kicked off and that was it. No word yet on making up the game or what will happen.

Tennessee plays tonight. Texas A&M, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Vanderbilt all played on Thursday night.
