Last Week: Straight Up 4-2, Against The Spread 3-3

Not bad for a first week. Some better games are on the slate this weekend, so let’s take a gander. Once again, I don’t gamble so you should not be using these picks as the basis of any cash wager.

Auburn (-7.5) at Tennessee

Tennessee has shown that there might be bright days in the future for this program. But Saturday is going to be mostly cloudy. I know it’s on the road, but Auburn is really starting to emerge as a program to be reckoned with. I look for War Eagle to reign supreme.

The Guess: Auburn 38 – Tennessee 13

Vanderbilt at Florida (-10)

Florida has a stranglehold on two programs in the SEC East. Kentucky and Vanderbilt. The last time Vanderbilt beat Florida: 1988. Vandy was hoping to establish themselves as a dark horse division contender and that hasn’t happened. Florida may not be great but they are still better than Vanderbilt. I don’t have a ton of confidence in Florida to score a lot of points, but I do believe they will score 10 more than the Commodores.

The Guess: Florida 20 – Vanderbilt 6

Missouri (-14) at Kentucky

I really like what Missouri has done this year. I don’t know if it is because I like the way they play, or if it is because I really want them to go to Oxford on the 23rd and run roughshod over the Rebels. I’m not sure, but I definitely like them to head to Lexington and run roughshod over the Wildcats. Missouri is really good, and Kentucky is not.

The Guess: Missouri 41 – Kentucky 14

Arkansas at Ole Miss (-17)

Based off of what he did in Wisconsin, I really believe Bielema is going to be a really good coach for Arkansas. What I don’t believe is that he will ever be much more likable than a bad infestation of bed bugs. I also don’t believe that Arkansas is going to win a game this year in the SEC. I could see this as being a letdown game for Ole Miss and not performing as well as one might expect them to, but I still think they pull out the win.

The Guess: Ole Miss 27 – Arkansas 17

Appalachian State at Georgia (-31.5)

Georgia wins and wins big. I don’t think we need to spend any more time on this one

The Guess: Georgia 52 – Appalachian State 10

LSU at Alabama (-12.5)

It’s the SEC Game of the Week. CBS has reserved this game for the last several years as its option for one primetime game a year. And for good reason. It usually determines the winner of the SEC West, but that isn’t going to be the case this year. That will be determined by the Iron Bowl.

In a year in which the SEC is experiencing a lot of parody, the constant has been Alabama. They play football really well. So does LSU but not as well as they normally do.  LSU has discovered to play offensive football but seems to have forgotten their specialty which is defense. Alabama is not an offensive juggernaut, but they are just a steamroller. They pound you, pound you, and pound you some more. LSU will keep it close and then the Tide will Roll in the fourth quarter.

The Guess: Alabama 31 – LSU 17

Mississippi State at Texas A&M (-19.5)

Texas A&M has Johnny Manziel. They are playing at Kyle Field. They look to be way too much for Mississippi State to handle. No one is picking State to pull the upset.

Except for me.

Why? I pick State because I think the team is due. I think State can exploit the porous A&M defense. I think State can get just enough pressure on Manziel to make him make some bad throws. Also, ever since they showed up in the SEC, all of their losses have been at home. I also just never pick against State, so why start now?

The Guess: Missisippi State 38 – Texas A&M 35
