The SEC gave us two absolutely massive games in Week 11 with Georgia facing Ole Miss and Alabama facing LSU. And while the clash in Baton Rouge cleared things up a bit in terms of who remains in the playoff hunt, what happened in Oxford only muddied the waters even more.
So what do my power rankings look like now?
SEC Power Rankings after Week 11
So, yeah. Georgia isn't all that good. It's time for the power rankings to reflect that.
1. Texas Longhorns (up from 2)
Texas dismantled Florida to look like a complete team for the first time in weeks, and that's a UF team that had been playing solidly. Now it's possible the Gators have given up since hearing Billy Napier isn't being fired, but regardless, the Horns rolled.
2. Tennessee Volunteers (up from 3)
Tennessee simply keeps winning football games. They had some of their normal sloppiness against Mississippi State, but the game was never in doubt. Can they finally take down Georgia? If they can't take down Georgia will they ever?
3. Alabama Crimson Tide (up from 4)
Don't look now, but Alabama looks really good again. The Tide waltzed into Death Valley and beat down LSU with a live tiger on the sidelines. All of the sudden, a playoff appearance seems likely for Kalen DeBoer's first year.
4. Ole Miss Rebels (up from 7)
I said last week that just based on how they were playing, Ole Miss was worthy of being in the top-5 of the power rankings. Well now, I've got them there. This is the team their fanbase envisioned in the offseason. It took some time and some ugly losses, but they've arrived. Kiffin finally got his big win (unless it turns out beating UGA wasn't actually impressive...).
5. Georgia Bulldogs (down from 1)
At this point, I'm much more curious about how Georgia managed to go into Austin and destroy Texas than I am curious about how they've played in every other game. Because the team they've been in the rest of their games is who they are - incredibly flawed (does that say anything about Texas?).
6. Texas A&M Aggies (down from 5)
Aggies were on break and won't be tested this weekend with New Mexico State. They still control their own destiny to win the league.
7. Missouri Tigers (up from 8)
Missouri won a very stupid game with Oklahoma. This team is ugly without Brady Cook at QB, though they weren't exactly impressive him healthy either.
8. LSU Tigers (down from 6)
Bringing a live tiger onto the sidelines that wasn't Mike because the Governor wanted it was the absolute worst omen for the Alabama game. LSU had no choice but to get embarrassed.
9. South Carolina Gamecocks (up from 10)
I was fully convinced South Carolina would lose to Vanderbilt for no reason other than that losing to Vanderbilt after beating A&M would be on brand for the Gamecocks. But hey, South Carolina handled business. This is a solid team.
10. Vanderbilt Commodores (down from 9)
Remember Vandy, you beat Alabama, you're going bowling, and most importantly, you embarrassed Hugh Freeze. That's all that really matters.
11. Arkansas Razorbacks (up from 12)
Arkansas was on a bye. They return to action to rekindle their old rivalry with Texas on Saturday.
12. Florida Gators (down from 11)
There's not much the Gators could do without DJ Lagway, but losing 49-17 to the type of program you expect to be competitive with immediately after your AD issues a statement that your HC everyone wants gone will be returning next year isn't a good look.
13. Oklahoma Sooners
The Sooners, needing one more win to become bowl eligible, literally handed the game to Missouri. What's left on the schedule? Alabama and then at LSU. I'd say "good luck with that", but beating LSU doesn't seem impossible anymore for OU. Who am I kidding? Yes it is.
14. Auburn Tigers
Auburn didn't lose a football game this weekend! Did they play a game? That's none of your business!
15. Kentucky Wildcats
Kentucky also didn't lose a football game this weekend? Did they play a game? That's also none of your business!
16. Mississippi State Bulldogs
Mississippi State did lose a football game this weekend, and unfortunately, it is our business.
