The 2024-2025 SEC men's basketball regular season came to a close on Saturday. Mississippi State basketball ended their regular season with a gutting loss at Arkansas, dropping them to 20-11 on the season with an 8-10 finish in SEC play.

Now the Bulldogs and the rest of the league will turn their attention to the 2025 SEC Men's Basketball Tournament in Nashville. Following Saturday's results, the bracket for the SEC Tournament is set.

2025 SEC Men's Basketball Tournament Bracket

The first ever 16-team SEC Tournament Bracket is here. The addition of Texas and Oklahoma to the league has led to some big changes with there now being four games played on Wednesday, featuring the bottom-half of the conference. The Top 8 teams get a first round bye, while the Top 4 get a double-bye into the Quarterfinals.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs check in as the 10-seed in this year's SEC Tournament. They'll face 15-seed LSU in their first round matchup on Wednesday.

Mississippi State basketball's path through the SEC Tournament

Mississippi State opens up postseason play with what should be a favorable first round matchup. The Bulldogs defeated LSU 81-69 last week behind a dominant second-half and 30-point game from Josh Hubbard. This is the second-straight year that Chris Jans' Bulldogs will face Matt McMahon's Tigers in their first SEC Tournament game, with State prevailing in last year's matchup.

If State can get past LSU, they'd then take on Missouri in the second round. The first matchup between these two was one MSU would like to forget. The Tigers blasted the Bulldogs in Starkville 88-61, making 15 threes. Mizzou's perimeter offense makes them a terrible matchup for State.

Just being realistic, it's hard to feel good about MSU's chances if they reach that game, but if the Bulldogs were to pull out a win over the Tigers, they'd then get another shot at Florida. The Gators are arguably playing the best basketball of anyone in the nation right now, and they also took it to State in Starkville in an 81-68 win that wasn't that close.

Needless to say, Mississippi State's odds at making a run in Nashville don't seem great, both because of who they'd have to get through and how they're playing right now. But they weren't playing well in entering the SEC Tournament last season either, and they managed to reach the semifinals, taking down #1 Tennessee on the way. Hopefully Chris Jans can rally his Bulldogs for another run.
