Wednesday night Mississippi State basketball lost at Texas A&M 75-69. A poor offensive effort early coupled with a remarkable first half shooting performance from the Aggies put the Bulldogs in a 23-point hole. State battled all the way back to within three, but their comeback attempt fell short.

The loss was Mississippi State's third-straight, and the Bulldogs now find themselves 19-11 overall on the year and 8-9 in SEC play with one regular season game remaining. After five-straight wins had them trending upwards in the SEC standings, State has slipped back down to a losing conference record. They will need a win over South Carolina at home on Saturday to finish .500 in league play.

Going into the final day of the regular season, where is Mississippi State basketball in the SEC standings?

Current SEC Tournament Bracket

With just one regular season game remaining, these standings give us a solid idea of how the SEC Men's Basketball Tournament bracket will fill out. There's still plenty that can change after Saturday's results, but here's what the bracket looks like going into the final day of games:

As of right now, Mississippi State basketball would take on LSU in the 8/9 game. That might be a favorable matchup for MSU considering their dominant win over the Tigers in Baton Rouge a few weeks ago. The downside, of course, would be a potential rematch with Tennessee if they could get past the Tigers.

State can finish anywhere between the 7-seed and 10-seed, and based on various scenarios, it seems either LSU or Texas A&M would be the opponent regardless of the Bulldogs' seeding. In either case, State would be playing a team they'd faced recently.

For now though, Mississippi State basketball's focus is on their Saturday home game against a breakout South Carolina team. The Gamecocks beat State in the SEC opener, and now the Bulldogs will look to get revenge in the SEC regular season finale.
