There have been hundreds of Bulldogs who went on to see an NFL field. To be exact, 209 former Mississippi State players have been drafted into the NFL.
Some of those players were one-and-done’s in the league and hardly played in snaps, disappointingly not living up to their hype.
However, a handful of Bulldogs went on to Hall of Fame-worthy careers in the league, despite zero (yes, 0) former Mississippi State players earning a spot in the NFL Hall of Fame so far.
So, with hundreds of players gracing the league with their presence, which 10 Bulldogs went on to the greatest NFL careers in Mississippi State history?
In 2001, Fred Smoot was selected in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins as the 45th overall pick.
Smoot played four seasons in Washington, two seasons in Minnesota, and then three more seasons with the Redskins.
Over his nine-year career in the NFL, Smoot racked up an astonishing 450 tackles and 21 interceptions. He also had 5 forced fumbles to top off his impressive resume.
Out of the 129 games that Smoot played in, the former Bulldog started in 104 games.
