SEC standings after Mississippi State basketball stumbled vs. Florida Gators
By Ethan Lee
While trips to the state of Florida are often enjoyable for a lot of folks, it's pretty clear that Chris Jans and the Mississippi State men's basketball team had absolutely no fun against the Florida Gators Wednesday evening.
Mississippi State, in what could have been a winnable game, simply didn't have enough offense. Outside of Josh Hubbard and his 26 points, the Bulldogs struggled considerably against the Gators, who had a well-rounded and balanced offensive approach to facing MSU.
And with a loss, the Bulldogs aren't exactly sitting in a great spot in the latest SEC basketball standings.
SEC basketball standings, 1/24/24
Here's what the SEC men's basketball standings look like right now as the Mississippi State basketball team fell flat against the Florida Gators.
- Auburn Tigers (5-1 SEC, 16-3 overall)
- Alabama Crimson Tide (5-1 SEC, 13-6 overall)
- Tennessee Volunteers (4-1 SEC, 14-4 overall)
- South Carolina Gamecocks (4-2 SEC, 16-3 overall)
- Kentucky Wildcats (4-2 SEC, 14-4 overall)

- Texas A&M Aggies (3-3 SEC, 12-7 overall)
- LSU Tigers (3-3 SEC, 11-8 overall)
- Mississippi State Bulldogs (2-4 SEC, 13-6 overall)
- Arkansas Razorbacks (1-5 SEC, 10-9 overall)
- Missouri Tigers (0-6 SEC, 8-11 overall)
- Vanderbilt Commodores (0-5 SEC, 5-13 overall)
Mississippi State basketball record
With this deflating road loss to the Florida Gators, Chris Jans and the Miss. State Bulldogs currently sit at 2-4 in conference play. Wednesday's 79-70 road loss against Florida really sets the Bulldogs back a bit.
Right now, Mississippi State is 13-6 overall on the year. That's not the worst thing ever, but it's pretty far from great. And it's hard to feel optimistic about any upcoming Mississippi State road games as the Bulldogs are now 0-4 on the road.
Florida basketball record
With the win over the MSU Bulldogs, Florida has now improved to 3-3 in the SEC and 13-6 overall. Florida has shown some inconsistencies of its own, but the Gators have done well at home and are an impressive 8-1 this season in Gainesville.
There's still plenty of time for Mississippi State to get things turned around, but the Bulldogs need to find some consistency on offense and they absolutely have to start winning in road games.
