SEC basketball standings after Mississippi State women's basketball beat Florida
By Ethan Lee
Sam Purcell and his Mississippi State basketball team really needed a solid win on Monday. That's just what the Bulldogs got. Fresh off of a loss to the Tennessee Lady Vols, the Mississippi State women's basketball team bounced back and got a double digit road win over the Florida Gators.
Generally speaking, road wins are good. Road wins against SEC competition? Now, that's even better. Go ahead and make that an SEC double digit victory and we're talking about a good time for just about everyone, all things considered.
Following Mississippi State's 89-77 win over the Gators, the Bulldogs moved up a bit in the SEC basketball standings.
Here's what the SEC women's basketball standings look like right now:

Mississippi State women's basketball record
With a road win over the Florida Gators on Monday evening, the Mississippi State women's basketball team improved to 16-5 overall and is now sitting at 3-3 against foes from the Southeastern Conference. So far, MSU's only SEC losses have come against three of the top four teams in the conference.
MSU's losses? Well, South Carolina (who is 5-0 in the SEC), Vanderbilt (who is No. 4 in the SEC), and Tennessee (who is 5-1 in the SEC). Those losses really aren't as bad as they could be. You could also very easily argue that MSU should have at least one of those losses back.
That's really not a bad place to be sitting as Mississippi State is hopeful of making a run once March rolls around. And as it stands at the moment, Sam Purcell's Mississippi State basketball team has a really nice spot to sit in the SEC race. If the Bulldogs can find a way to string together some wins to get out of the logjam that is the middle class of the SEC, then seeding for the SEC Tournament will look pretty good a few weeks down the line.
Florida women's basketball record
As for the Florida Gators? Well, Monday's 89-77 home loss to the Bulldogs drops Florida to just 10-7 overall and the Gators are sitting at 1-4 in SEC action. Florida is sitting at second-to-last in the conference and the Gators definitely face an uphill climb as they try to get this season turned around in a hurry.
