By Ethan Lee
SEC play is just about underway for Sam Purcell's Mississippi State basketball team. The Mississippi State Bulldogs will face their first Southeastern Conference foe when the Vanderbilt Commodores arrive in Starkville for a fascinating Thursday evening matchup between two solid teams.
Both the Bulldogs and the Commodores have done well up to this point in the season and each of these teams happen to boast 13 wins so far this season. MSU sits at 13-2 on the season and is in the midst of a five-game winning streak. Meanwhile, Vandy sits at 13-1 right now.
Both of these teams are good! And that'll make this matchup really interesting.
As the Mississippi State women's basketball team tips off its SEC portion of the schedule, keep an eye on these five storylines and monitor them closely. Here's what you need to watch for as the Bulldogs host the Commodores in this conference clash in the Hump:
No. 5: Mississippi State Bulldogs and their strong defense meet up with Vanderbilt Commodores and their strong defense
Both the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Vanderbilt Commodores come into this conference play opener boasting strong defenses. Sam Purcell's Bulldogs have done well to shut down opposing offenses as they've held the Bulldogs to just 35.8 percent shooting from the field.
Meanwhile, Vanderbilt has thrived in causing chaos and disruption. Jordyn Cambridge is a great example as she's racked up 4.6 steals per game, fueling the Commodores' defensive efforts throughout this season.
This matchup could certainly be low scoring if both of these defenses have their way Thursday evening.
