To say things are going well for Mississippi State football on the recruiting trail would be an understatement. Over the past two weeks, the Bulldogs have gone on an incredible run of commitments to begin rounding their 2025 signing class into form.

The took another massive step over this past weekend. Another major recruiting event on campus has yielded five commitments for State plus a sixth who committed a few days earlier. And a few of these commitments were amongst the best they've added thus far.

Mississippi State lands two 4-star prospects on Sunday

While the positive momentum on the recruiting trail has been fantastic, the one thing lacking in this run of commitments was highly-rated prospects. That changed on Sunday when two blue chips players joined the class.

Offensive lineman Mario Nash Jr. became the first "big fish" commit for the Bulldogs Sunday. A 90-overall 4-star out of De Kalb, MS, Nash Jr. is rated as the 8th best player in the state of MS and the 14th best Interior OL by 247 Sports. MSU beat out Ole Miss, LSU, and Florida State for the powerful 6-4, 285 pounder.

State would then add a big-time pass-catcher in WR Ferzell Shepard out of Baton Rouge. The 91-overall 4-star is the #6 player in Louisiana and the #18 WR per 247. The 6-2, 185 Shepard brings speed on the outside, having clocked a 10.65 100 meters dash this year. He chose MSU over Arkansas, Baylor, and Texas Tech.

Bulldog flip a pair of power conference commitments

As part of this momentum, MSU has now seen a pair of power conference commits flip in their favor. On Thursday, elusive 3-star RB Kolin Wilson out of Gulf Shores flipped his commitment to the Bulldogs from Cincinnati. Then on Sunday, 3-star LB Austin Howard from Bartlett, TN flipped from Vanderbilt to the Bulldogs. Howard also held offers from Ole Miss and Tennessee.

More offensive skill talent in the boat for Mississippi State

Jeff Lebby added more talented to his offensive skill positions over the weekend. Saturday night, 3-star WR Davian Jackson out of New Iberia, LA committed the Bulldogs, choosing them over Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Miami. Then Sunday, 3-star RB Geron Johnson, Bartlett HS teammate of Austin Howard, announced for Mississippi State. He held an offer from Ole Miss.

MSU's recruiting ranking has skyrocketed

Mississippi State football couldn't be hotter on the recruiting trail. The Bulldogs have added 14 commitments over the last two weeks, and after what appeared to be a slow start to the 2025 class, they're suddenly in a very competitive place.

State is up to 24th in the class rankings per 247 after being as low as 71st prior to this run. If they could add a few more blue chips to this group, this could end up being an impressive first full class for Jeff Lebby in Starkville.
