Mississippi State Football's Chris Jones Gets Massive Contract
Saturday night ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that former Mississippi State football defensive lineman Chris Jones reached an agreement to re-sign with the Kansas City Chiefs. And the former Bulldog is getting a massive payday.
Schefter reports that Jones agreed to a 5-year deal with $95 million in guaranteed money. That $95 million is set to be paid out during the first three years of the deal. According to NFL Network National Insider Ian Rapoport, the total 5-year deal is worth almost $160 million. The expectation is that the deal would result in Jones receiving the highest annual average salary ever for a defensive tackle.
Chris Jones is worth every penny of his new contract
Over his 8-year career, Chris Jones has been one of, if not the best, defensive tackles in the NFL. He's recorded 273 tackles, 75.5 sacks, and 12 forced fumbles throughout his career. Twice he's posted 15.5 sacks in a season, a ridiculous total for an interior defensive lineman. He's been a dominant force for the Kansas City defense.
Jones is a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs. He's made the Pro Bowl every year since 2019, earned 1st Team All-Pro honors the last two seasons, and has been named 2nd Team All-Pro three times. He owns the NFL record for consecutive games with a sack at 11.
Chris Jones continues building Mississippi State football's legacy as "D-Line U"
Over the past decade, Mississippi State football has produced several of the NFL's very best defensive lineman. Fletcher Cox, who announced his retirement from the league on Sunday, began a run of Bulldogs in the NFL dominating the position.
None have been greater than Chris Jones. Since being drafted in the 2nd Round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the former 5-star signee has taken the reigns as being the premier interior pass rusher in the league. It's great publicity for Mississippi State football.
With yet another former Bulldog earning a record-setting contract, you can bet that State will continue to see elite defensive line talent come to Starkville with dreams of becoming the next Chris Jones.
