Mississippi State Basketball Forward Jaquan Scott Enters Transfer Portal
Mississippi State basketball saw its second player enter the transfer portal in as many days on Thursday. Junior guard and former JUCO-transfer Trey Fort entered the portal on Wednesday, And today, another former JUCO-transfer joined Fort in the portal.
Junior forward Jaquan Scott is in the transfer portal after one season at Mississippi State.
Jaquan Scott appeared in 11 games for Mississippi State this past season, mostly coming in to relieve Cam Matthews while KeShawn Murphy wasn't available. Scott scored a season-high six points in a blowout victory over the Tulane Green Wave in early December. He also had his season-high in rebounds against Tulane with six. He saw his most extensive playing against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa in early February when he gave 12 minutes for the Bulldogs.
Scott did not play in the final 11 games of the season for Mississippi State basketball. He finished his lone season with the Bulldogs averaging 1.2 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.
Jaquan Scott signed with Mississippi State after playing two seasons at Salt Lake Community College in Taylorsville, Utah. As a sophomore, he averaged 16.8 points per game and 10 rebounds per game. In his freshman season, Salt Lake Community College posted a 35-2 record, finishing as the NJCAA national runners-up.
Scott's transfer does not come as a surprise. He simply struggled to find playing time for Chris Jans at Mississippi State this season. With the possibility that both Cam Matthews and KeShawn Murphy could return for the Bulldogs, minutes would likely have been hard to come by next season as well.
Mississippi State basketball is going to be aggressive in the transfer portal this offseason. There are several holes that need to be filled on the roster with Tolu Smith, Jimmy Bell, Deshawn Davis, and DJ Jeffries finishing their careers. Jaquan Scott leaving opens another roster spot that Chris Jans will need to address.
