Mississippi State baseball just landed another important piece for the transfer portal class. The Diamond Dawgs are in dire need of pitchers looking ahead to the 2025 season, and they now have a proven arm on board.

Indiana State transfer pitcher Jacob Pruitt commits to Mississippi State baseball

Mississippi State baseball landed its first true pitcher commit out of the transfer portal with former Indiana State Sycamore Jacob Pruitt.

The right-handed Pruitt dealt with injuries last season but still made 13 appearances for Indiana State in 2024 with five starts, totaling 41.2 innings pitched and finishing with a 3-2 record and one save. Pruitt posted a 3.02 ERA with 57 strikeouts to 23 walks. His batting average allowed was .232, and his WHIP was 1.42.

Jacob Pruitt has a chance to be a weekend starter for the Diamond Dawgs in 2025. He got off to a great start for the Sycamores last season before getting injured. Mississippi State has multiple starting pitching roles up for grabs going into next season, and at his best, Pruitt is absolutely good enough to take one of those jobs.

Mississippi State baseball's portal class is rounding into form

It wasn't that long ago that many Bulldog fans were concerned with the direction things were heading for State baseball's portal class. There's no getting around the fact that there wasn't much momentum when it came to landing players out of the transfer portal.

But now after the commitments of Ace Reese out of Houston and Jacob Pruitt, things are suddenly trending up.

Mississippi State now has multiple highly regarded transfers committed in an offseason in which they desperately needed to land impressive talent out of the portal. Their current transfer class is in a good spot, and if they can add a few more quality starters, they'll have successfully reloaded the roster for the 2025 season.
