Final Bracketology Projections for Mississippi State Basketball on Selection Sunday
In less than two hours, we'll know Mississippi State basketball's NCAA Tournament fate. The Bulldogs concluded a successful run in the 2024 SEC Men's Basketball Tournament Saturday in the semifinals, falling to the eventual champion Auburn Tigers 73-66.
State went to Nashville with their NCAA Tournament hopes on the line, and by all accounts, they did exactly what they needed to vault themselves safely into the bracket. Specifically, their quarterfinal win over then #5 NET Tennessee gave their resume a massive boost, moving MSU ahead of the rest of the bubble.
That win was crucial given the madness that's occurred over the past few days. We're guaranteed four bid-stealers this season between NC State, Oregon, Duquesne, and either UAB or Temple. That's a huge number for a single tournament, and it assures that four bubble teams will be left out. And with an unusually strong group of bubble teams, there will be teams left out that would go dancing almost any other season.
Luckily for Mississippi State basketball, bracketologists agree that the Bulldogs played themselves above that final group and will be in the field of 68. Let's take a look at the final projections ahead of the selection show.

Mississippi State basketball is locked-in on Selection Sunday
After an impressive showing in the SEC Tournament, Bulldog basketball is a consensus NCAA Tournament team. In fact, the vast majority of bracketologists have Mississippi State above the "Last Four In", meaning they'd avoid going to Dayton for the play-in games like they had to last season.
The real question now is where will the Bulldogs go? There are multiple realistic options for tournament sites that State could be sent to, ranging from incredibly desirable to not at all. You can learn about the various possibilities for Mississippi State basketball's destination here:
