Cornerback Decamerion Richardson became the first Mississippi State football player taken in the 2024 NFL Draft. Richardson can start singing "Viva Las Vegas", as he was selected in the 4th Round by the Las Vegas Raiders with the 112th overall pick.
Richardson has an incredibly high ceiling as a cornerback. He has a combination of size and speed that very few defensive backs possess, which is precisely why he was drafted. He's still very raw as a prospect and will need some development, but if he can tap into his potential, he has a chance to be a true lock-down corner in the league.
So how did social media react to the news of Decamerion Richardson being drafted by the Raiders? Here's what fans of Vegas and Mississippi State had to say...
The Mississippi State football community reacts to Decamerion Richardson being drafted.
As you can expect, the Bulldog football community is ecstatic to see Richardson off to the NFL. Former Mississippi State corners Taveze Calhoun and Emmanuel Forbes both gave congratulations to Richardson. Forbes, of course, played opposite of Richardson at State, and Calhoun got the chance to coach him.
Former MSU CB's coach Darcel McBath, who coached Richardson in college, also sent his congrats to his former player. And in true coach fashion, he made sure to remind Richardson that the real work starts now.
Could Mississippi State be on its way to becoming the next "DBU"? As On3 reporter Robbie Faulk pointed out, Decamerion Richardson is now the fourth corner taken out of MSU since 2020. State fans can start asking the question.
Raiders fans and analysts react to drafting Decamerion Richardson.
So how does the Raiders fanbase and writers feel about the selection? They love the potential Richardson brings.
Raiders fans will love the take of NFL analyst Chris Simms, who seems to think they got one of the steals of the draft with Decamerion Richardson. That's high praise for the Bulldog.
Many pointed out that the selection of Decamerion Richardson seems like an ode to the Raiders' late, legendary owner Al Davis. Davis was infamous for valuing speed over everything else in a player, and Richardson has plenty of speed.
Richardson got a great welcome to Las Vegas. Maxx Crosby, the Raiders star pass rusher and best overall player, welcomed Decamerion Richardson into Raider Nation. With Crosby terrorizing QBs and Richardson locking it down on the backend, the Raiders could soon field a nasty defense.
Las Vegas seems like a fantastic landing spot for Decamerion Richardson. Hopefully he can become the next great Bulldog defender in the league.
