Mississippi State football just enjoyed a massive recruiting weekend on campus. The Bulldogs hosted several prospects, including some of their top commitments and top targets. The result was positive for State, as nine players made their commitment to the Bulldogs over the weekend.
Among the players visiting Starkville this past weekend was OL commit Jakobe Green. Green, a 6-3, 335 3-star from Quincy, FL, has been committed to MSU since the beginning of February. He's a good prospect with a nice collection of offers, but one recent offer had muddied the waters when it came to his standing with the Bulldogs.
Florida State offered Green last month. The in-state Seminoles got him in for an official visit at the end of May, and since then, it's been clear MSU would have to fight hard to keep him. But Green stayed committed all the way through taking his official visit to Starkville over the weekend.
By all indications, that visit went well, yet merely hours after positing to "X" about having a great time visiting Mississippi State, Jakobe Green then announced his decommitment from the Bulldogs. The easiest way to describe that dichotomy? "Crootin," as SportsTalk Mississippi's Brian Hadad put it.

The expectation, naturally, is that he'll soon announce a flip to FSU. However that bad news was short-lived for the Bulldogs. Shortly after Green's decommitment, the Bulldogs landed a replacement. Vancleave's Dalton Toothman, a 6-5, 295 3-star, made his announcement for MSU, choosing the Bulldogs over Ole Miss, Auburn, and Clemson.

Technically, Toothman isn't a direct replacement for Green. Toothman is a tackle while Green was an interior OL prospect, and ideally State would have liked to have had both in the class. But just on the surface, both players have identical composite ratings of 88-overall, and you could argue Toothman's offer sheet is the more impressive of the two.
If nothing else, State had a net neutral night on the recruiting trail. And while Toothman and Green are projected for different positions, positional recruiting doesn't matter all that much when it comes to high school OL prospects. What's most important is to add a multitude of talented blockers and fit them in where needed down the line. Even with the loss of Green, State's OL class is trending well.
Bulldogs OL coach Phil Loadholt makes interesting social media post following latest recruiting news
One of the more interesting things to come out of Monday night's recruiting news was MSU OL coach Phil Loadholt's apparent reaction to it at all. At the same time that Jakobe Green announced his decommitment, Loadholt seemingly expressed his thoughts on the matter on "X."

That's a GIF of a bridge burning down. While not an actual statement, it doesn't take a genius to figure out the message Loadholt is trying to convey here. Clearly, he's not too pleased with how things were handled. But on the flipside, his reaction to Dalton Toothman's commitment was much more positive.

No subliminal messaging there. Phil Loadholt got a commit worth celebrating in Toothman. We'll see if he can add any more lineman to get excited for between now and Signing Day.
