NBA legend and Basketball Hall of Famer is now a Mississippi State basketball fan
Mississippi State basketball picked-up a big win over SMU Friday night to move to 5-0 on the season. It was an important early season victory for this team, and they got it done with one of the biggest names in all of basketball watching.
Miami Heat legend and Basketball Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade was in attendance for Mississippi State basketball vs SMU
One of the biggest names in the sport of basketball got to see the Bulldogs in person Friday night. Dwyane Wade was in attendance as State took on the Mustangs.
Dwyane Wade, a 3x NBA champion, 13x NBA All-Star, and Basketball Hall of Famer, is widely considered to be the greatest player in Miami Heat franchise history. Prior to his remarkable pro career, Wade was a 1st Team All-American at Marquette and helped lead the Golden Eagles to the 2003 Final Four.
Why was a basketball legend in attendance for a somewhat random college basketball game between schools he didn't play for? Family.
Bulldog guard Josh Hubbard is related to Dwyane Wade
As it turns out, Mississippi State superstar Josh Hubbard is related to an all-time superstar. Hubbard and Wade are third-cousins.
Not only was this the first time that D-Wade got to watch Hubbard in person, it was his first time meeting him. Wade and his mother wanted to take the opportunity to see their kin in action, and there's a chance it won't be the last time.
D-Wade is now a State basketball fan
When you've got an all-time great on your side, you absolutely have to let him speak to the locker room after an exciting victory. D-Wade expressed to the Bulldogs how impressed he was with their resiliency in Friday night's win, staying locked-in and fighting back even when things weren't going well.
He also expressed that he's now a fan of Bulldog basketball.
That's a pretty awesome selling point for your program that one of the greatest players in basketball history is cheering you one. To say that Dwyane Wade's name resonates in the sports world is an understatement, so it's great to have him on Mississippi State's side.
