Mississippi State football continues to lose key players in their matchup against No. 5 Georgia. After losing starting safeties Isaac Smith (injury) and Jahron Manning (targeting ejection), quarterback Blake Shapen is now out of the game with an injury.
Shapen took a hard hit while attempting a pass on Mississippi State's opening drive of the second half and was quickly escorted to the locker room. According to Landon Tucker of MPW Digital, Shapen did make his return from the locker room, but not until after true freshman QB Kamario Taylor entered the game.

We'll see if Blake Shapen ends up returning to this game or not. This is the second straight game he has had to leave in the second half and have Kamario Taylor step in. Immediately after Shapen left, Georgia scored to go up 38-7, and while Kamario Taylor did lead a TD drive afterwards to make the margin slightly smaller, it makes little sense to put Shapen back out there in a game that's completely out of hand.
UPDATE: Blake Shapen OUT for Mississippi State, Kamario Taylor takes over at QB
Officially, Blake Shapen's day is done for Mississippi State against Georgia. Though Shapen did return from the locker room, he was out of his pads. That means it will be Kamario Taylor in at QB for the remainder of the game against the No. 5 Bulldogs.
That decision makes plenty of sense for Jeff Lebby. Mississippi State is not going to win this game, trailing 38-14 at the start of the fourth quarter. There's no need to risk further injury in a game they no longer have a chance to win, especially not when the Bulldogs need to be in as good a shape as possible in their final two games as they fight for bowl-eligibility.
And this is a great opportunity to get Kamario Taylor valuable game reps. Taylor is clearly the future at QB in Starkville, and letting him get extending playing time against a good Georgia defense is a great learning opportunity. While you don't want it happening due to injury, this is a chance at critical development for the QB State plans to build around going forward.
