3. The Bulldogs win the West - Mississippi State wins the 1998 Egg Bowl 28-6

In the history of this rivalry, there haven't been many matchups in which a championship was at stake. It's much more frequent that one side is simply fighting to make a bowl game. But in 1998, Mississippi State entered the Egg Bowl with championship aspirations.

Following a thrilling upset of #9 Arkansas the week prior, the Bulldogs were in the driver's seat to win the SEC West for the first time. But they had to get by their rivals to officially clinch the division.

Mississippi State dominated the Rebels. They held Ole Miss to just 8-24 passing for only 75 yards, picking off three passes in the second-half. The final pick came late in the fourth, securing a 28-6 win for the Bulldogs. It was State's third-straight win in Oxford, and this victory won them the SEC West title.

State would go on to lose in the SEC Championship Game to eventual national champion Tennessee 24-14. But simply getting to Atlanta was a breakthrough moment for the program. And with divisions now gone in the SEC, there's only one team in Mississippi who can say they won the SEC West, and it's not Ole Miss.
