The 2024 Mississippi State football season hasn't gone to plan. The Bulldogs are a poor 2-8 as we head into the final two weeks of the season. But despite the struggles, a few Bulldogs have had strong years individually. This week, one of those players was honored for a strong season.

Albert Reese IV named 2024 Kent Hull Trophy winner

Offensive tackle Albert Reese IV has been selected as the Kent Hull Trophy winner for 2024. The Kent Hull Trophy, awarded by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, is given to the top offensive lineman in the state of Mississippi each year.

The Kent Hull Trophy honors the late Kent Hull, legendary center for Mississippi State who went on to have an illustrious career with the Buffalo Bills. The award began in 2013, and was appropriately won in its inaugural season by Bulldog Gabe Jackson. Mississippi State has dominated the award, now having won it seven times. This is the second-straight season the Kent Hull Trophy has gone to a Bulldog, with Cole Smith winning last year.

The award is voted on by a panel of NFL scouts, and those scouts determined that Reese IV has had the most outstanding season of any collegiate lineman in the entire state. That's high praise for the Bulldog tackle. He's helped pave the way for a Mississippi State rushing attack that's gone over 200 yards three times this season and has averaged 168 yards per game since Week 4.

A 3-star recruit out of high school, Reese signed with Mississippi State in the Class of 2021. The Edmonton, Alberta native made First Year SEC Academic Honor Roll as a true freshman and is a SEC graduate. He's become a full-time starter for the Bulldogs in his fourth season with the program.

While this year hasn't been what Bulldog fans imagined, at least we can celebrate some individual achievements from the team.
