Mississippi State football just keeps finding new ways to lose. The Bulldogs dropped to 4-4 on the season, 0-4 in the SEC, after choking away a 17-point fourth quarter lead over the Texas Longhorns, losing 45-38 in overtime. The program has now lost 16-straight SEC games.
If you think you had a worse Saturday as a football fan than Mississippi State fans did, no you didn't.
What exactly did Mississippi State fans do to deserve the misery the Bulldogs put them through?
Plenty of fanbases like to say they're the most tortured, but I don't think anyone can actually argue as being more beaten and battered than Mississippi State fans. There is no more miserable existence than cheering on this Bulldog program right now. Seriously, what did State fans do to deserve this?
I'm not exactly sure what State fans did to deserve this hell.

It's genuinely a weekly thing with this program. Watching last second losses three times in the last month is a special kind of agonizing for a program that's been through so much turmoil in recent years.

But of course, losing in excruciating fashion is not a new development. That's just par for the course in Starkville. How Mississippi State was blowing a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter to a team whose offense has been awful all season long? Cristil Method has the answer...

Mississippi State fans are appalled at how bad the Bulldogs are in key situations
What's truly baffling is just how many ways State has managed to screw things up late in games.
Convert on an awesome fake punt? Give up a fumble six the very next play. Drive into field goal range in the final minute down two? Throw a game-losing interception when all you had to do was run it. Get a fourth down stop up 17? Commit a roughing the passer penalty to keep the drive alive and, ultimately, give up a touchdown. Oh, and let's not forget punting to one of the nation's most dangerous returners.
I’ve never seen a team in the 4th quarter in clutch situations consistently look more inept and incapable of playing football than Mississippi State does. It’s truly mind boggling.

If it was something that had happened once or even twice, then it's just bad luck. But the fact that it happens over and over again without fail? That falls back on coaching.
Such a poorly coached team in tight situations.

The video below probably sums out how the Bulldogs handle key situations better than anything else...

Mississippi State fans are done with Jeff Lebby
This loss to Texas paired with the losses to Tennessee and Florida have the Bulldog faithful out on Jeff Lebby. Fans stepped up in NIL to help turn the roster around. Fans have created outstanding home atmospheres for the big games played at Davis Wade Stadium this year. But the results haven't changed.

You asked us to show up and we showed up
You asked us to be loud and we were loud.
We ask you to win and you can't.
Whatever happens in the realm of fan support from here on out is deserved
Yes, there's obvious growth. But ultimately all that matters are wins and losses, and losing games you not only could have won but should have won is the quickest way to lose the fanbase. Jeff Lebby lost Mississippi State fans with this one.
0-12 in SEC play.

Blowout loss at home to Toledo.
Another blown double digit lead in a game that you had complete control in.
Married to your fifth-year QB.
It’s time to move on.
Once you lose a fanbase, it's nearly impossible to win them back. And Lebby has lost them to the point that some are already ready to see his tenure end.
Fire him. I’m done.

Now realistically, a coaching change isn't going to happen. Lebby isn't going to be let go after two seasons when he took over the situation that he did and there technically has been improvement (not to mention this is not the year to want to be entering the coaching market). But unless there's a drastic change in the win/loss column very soon, it's hard to envision this thing working out.
