The offseason got started with a bang for Mississippi State football. Just two days before the start of the Early Signing Period on December 3, the Bulldogs picked up their most impressive commitment of the 2026 recruiting class. 5-star safety prospect Bralan Womack made his commitment to Mississippi State, flipping to the Bulldogs from the Auburn Tigers.

The 5-11.5, 195 native of Flowood, MS has 98.67 rating according to the 247 Sports Composite. The Hartfield Academy product is considered the No. 30 player nationally, the No. 2 player in the state of Mississippi, and the No. 1 safety in the Class of 2026. He chose the Bulldogs over Auburn, Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Florida.

Bralan Womack had been committed to Auburn since August 25. He took an official visit to Mississippi State on November 7, and Jeff Lebby and the Bulldogs made quite an impression on him during that trip. Still, he visited Texas A&M just one week later, and coming out of that trip, the Aggies were considered by many to be the favorites to flip Womack from the Tigers.

That did not happen, however, and Bralan Womack returned to Starkville for the Egg Bowl. Three days later, he made his flip to Mississippi State, and the Bulldogs landed the first truly elite prospect of their recruiting class. That class now ranks 30th according to the 247 Sports Composite.

Commitment of Bralan Womack gives Mississippi State much needed momentum to start offseason

After a poor close to the 2025 season and failing to reach a bowl game, Jeff Lebby desperately needed some good news to kickoff the offseason in Starkville. And he could not have gotten better news than landing Bralan Womack.

Mississippi State's 2026 recruiting class has largely been disappointing, especially on the defensive side of the ball where the obvious SEC-caliber commitments are lacking. Bralan Womack gives the class a massive boost. There's no questioning his talent, as he's a prospect that can step in and immediately help turnaround a struggling Bulldog defense.

Womack is also the type of commitment that can provide a spark going into Signing Day. Getting a player of his caliber on board could get the ball rolling for State to land a few more impressive prospects. The rumor mill is hot that MSU is pushing hard to flip multiple high-level players on Wednesday, and they're seemingly trending positively towards doing so. Nothing is set in stone, but landing Bralan Womack may just be the start for Mississippi State.
