We're just a few hours into Saturday, and it's already been a wild day of college football rivalries. Nothing has been more notable than Michigan's upset of #2 Ohio State in Columbus. The Buckeyes were huge favorites over their rivals and one of the favorites to win the national championship. Now they've lost to the Wolverines for the fourth-straight season, which almost certainly means HC Ryan Day will be fired.
Adding to the craziness, a massive brawl broke out between the two teams following the game that resulted in Michigan players being pepper-sprayed.

It was a wild situation, and there's almost certainly going to be fallout from it. But one college football analyst's silence on the incident has Mississippi State fans calling out his hypocrisy.
Mississippi State fans call out Kirk Herbstreit for his silence over Ohio State's brawl with Michigan
ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit is one of the biggest names in college football. He's been a fixture on College Gameday since the mid-90s and has long served as ESPN's top color commentator. Following Ohio State's loss to Michigan, the former Buckeye QB had this to say...
Rivalry weekend. Ya just never know. That’s why they play the games. Congrats to @Coach_SMoore and @UMichFootball
— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) November 30, 2024
That's a pretty typical thing to say after the game. But if you check out the replies to that post, you'll interestingly find Mississippi State fans of all people going after him.
THAT WAS A BLACK EYE FOR THE SPORT, KIRK

Say it @KirkHerbstreit… that was a black eye for college football after the game

You should be embarrassed about your program. Black eye for the sport. Clown.

There are many more just like these. So why are Mississippi State fans, who you'd assume have no reason to care what Herbstreit says about the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry, flooding his mentions?
Kirk Herbstreit heavily criticized Mike Leach and Mississippi State over 2020 Armed Forces Bowl brawl
Following a 28-26 Mississippi State win in the 2020 Armed Forces Bowl, a massive brawl broke out between the Bulldogs and Tulsa. The two teams had plenty of jawing and shoving during the game, and afterwards, it boiled over into a fight.

No one would argue the fight was a good look for Mississippi State. It shouldn't have happened. But guess what? Sometimes this stuff does in college football. It wasn't the first time and, obviously, wouldn't be the last. But for whatever reason, this brawl in particular struck a nerve with Kirk Herbstreit.
"This is a black eye for the sport. ... It's as bad as it can be."@KirkHerbstreit had some powerful thoughts about yesterday's brawl between Mississippi State and Tulsa. pic.twitter.com/YW2lphdNql

Herbstreit heavily criticized Mississippi State and then HC Mike Leach over the incident (interestingly ignoring Tulsa's role in it). He said that "Mike Leach should be embarrassed", and he called the brawl "a black eye for the sport."
Even at the time that seemed like a pretty hyperbolic reaction to a fight that, while not appropriate, wasn't anything out of the ordinary for college football. But now? Kirk Herbstreit looks like a massive hypocrite.
imagine Herbstreit if this was a Mike Leach team https://t.co/2BndLTSBvs

Was today's incident between the Buckeyes and Wolverines not "a black eye for the sport" too? Should Ryan Day not be embarrassed? I mean players were literally pepper-sprayed! Why no outrage this time? Is it because Herbstreit is a Buckeye? It sure seems like it.
We'll see if Herbstreit officially speaks out against his alma mater's own brawl later on, but if he does, he better go at it with the same fire he had for Mike Leach and the Bulldogs.
