There's been plenty of attention put on recruiting in Starkville right now as Mississippi State football continues working towards getting its 2025 roster in SEC-ready shape by way of the transfer portal. But you can't disregard your program's future roster in the process, and while we've got several months until Signing Day, Jeff Lebby may be close to landing his quarterback for the Class of 2026.
On3 Sports predicts Mississippi State to land 2026 QB Brodie McWhorter
On Tuesday, college football recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong of On3 Sports logged an expert prediction for the Bulldogs to earn the commitment of QB Brodie McWhorter. This prediction comes shortly after the news that McWhorter was moving up his commitment date from May 15 to May 1.

On3's industry rankings rate Brodie McWhorter as an 86.78 3-star prospect. The 6-1, 190 passer out of Cass High School in Cartersville, GA is considered the No. 41 QB nationally and the No. 71 player in the state of Georgia. He was previously committed to West Virginia but chose to decommit following the coaching change in Morgantown.
McWhorter recently unveiled a Top 3 consisting of Mississippi State, Colorado, and Indiana, and by all indications, the Bulldogs are the frontrunners to land him. Four other schools - Auburn, Wisconsin, Syracuse, and West Virginia - had previously been in the running.
Brodie McWhorter is Mississippi State's top target at QB for the Class of 2026, and he would be a quality pick-up. He's coming off an injury suffered during his junior season, but to this point he's displayed traits ideal for operating Jeff Lebby's offense, such as downfield accuracy and solid mobility. He's also got a good collection of programs after his talents, which is never a bad sign.
Mississippi State's QB room is in an outstanding spot both for the present and for the future between graduate Blake Shapen, sophomore Luke Kromenhoek, and freshman Kamario Taylor. But after this season, Shapen will be gone, and State will be left with just two scholarship QBs. McWhorter would be a nice addition to take that spot in the room.
