The 2024 Mississippi State football season was excruciating for Bulldog fans. The Maroon and White finished the year with a 2-10 record, going winless in conference play. It was their first time finishing with just two wins since 2003. It was their first time failing to win a SEC game since 2002.
There's an entire generation of State fans, including myself, that never had to endure anything close to the disaster that was this season. And even the more veteran State fans are in no way numb to this type of season considering it has been so long since anything close to it has happened.
So after watching the Bulldogs get blown out at home by Toledo, allow Arkansas to put 58 points on the board, fall in the Egg Bowl again, and suffer double-digit losses, there's no question that MSU fans are relieved to have this season over with.
Mississippi State football fans could not be more thrilled that football season is over
Following their 26-14 loss in the Egg Bowl, Mississippi State fans took to "X" (Twitter) to celebrate. They weren't celebrating the loss to be clear. They were celebrating that they were finally free from the pain and suffering that Bulldog football brings them.
It's a shame that Bulldog football has gotten to a place that fans view the end of the season like breaking out of prison, but that's where we're at. Hopefully things turn around next year.
Bulldog fans are on to basketball season
The good news for Mississippi State fans is that there's a sport already underway that they can be excited about. Bulldog basketball is off a 6-1 start to the season and ranked in the Top 25. They are coming off a tough loss to Butler Friday night, but they've been impressive overall to start the year.
Naturally, fans are all in on MSU hoops now.
Chris Jans has a good squad this year. They've got big games coming up with the likes of Pittsburgh and Memphis before getting into a SEC play. The Bulldogs have a chance to quickly make a statement on the hardwood and turn in a big season. And for the sake of the Mississippi State fanbase, let's hope they do.
