Mississippi State basketball has been all over the place in bracketology this season. Early in SEC play, some bracketologists had the Bulldogs as high as a 2-seed. Just a few weeks back, they had fallen to an 8-seed in the eyes of many. As this team experienced the ebbs and flows of conference play, they saw some drastic changes in their projected seeding.
Going into last Saturday, ESPN's Joe Lunardi had Mississippi State as a 5-seed in his bracket. Now that the Bulldogs are coming off a loss to Oklahoma, where does Joey Brackets project them?
Mississippi State Bulldogs right on the 6/7 line in Joe Lunardi's latest bracketology
Over the last few days, Mississippi State has seen quite a bit of shuffling along the seed list according to Joe Lunardi. On Sunday morning, Lunardi still had the Bulldogs holding on to a 5-seed despite their questionable (but still Quad 1) loss in Norman.
But after fully digesting the results of the weekend, Lunardi made a significant change to MSU's seeding. In his Tuesday bracket, Mississippi State was down to a 7-seed. Lunardi projected the Bulldogs in the Midwest Region, traveling to Wichita to take on 10-seed San Diego State.
That'd be quite the first round matchup, as the Aztecs are one of the best mid-major programs out -there. They've played in four-straight tournaments (would've been five if not for COVID) and went all the way to the national championship game in 2023. Also in Lunardi's projected regional were 2-seed Houston and 15-seed Montana.
Not long after Joe Lunardi's updated bracket was published however, he released another update on "X". In that update, he had moved the Bulldogs to his 24th-overall seed, which would push them up to a 6-seed.

Clearly, Joey Brackets made some tweaking in this morning that wasn't reflected in his published bracketology. But officially, Mississippi State goes into tonight's game at Alabama as Lunardi's final 6-seed. And that's a massive opportunity for the Bulldogs. A win in Tuscaloosa could vault them up multiple seed lines here late in the season.
