Mississippi State basketball lands Mississippi's top prospect, continues in-state dominance in recruiting
Attention in Starkville is turning to Mississippi State basketball, which is set to begin its third season under Chris Jans in just a few weeks. And while much of the focus is on the Bulldogs' promising prospects for this season, things are looking promising for the future as well.
Jamarion Davis-Fleming commits to Mississippi State basketball
Bulldog basketball got fantastic news Tuesday afternoon 4-star Jamarion Davis-Fleming out of Canton, MS announced his commitment to Mississippi State. The 6-9, 214 center/power forward is rated as the top prospect in the state of Mississippi. Davis-Fleming chose the Bulldogs over Ole Miss, LSU, and James Madison.
Jamarion Davis-Fleming joins a pair of 4-stars, point guard King Grace and small forward Cameron Paul, in Mississippi State's 2025 signing class. His commitment gives the Bulldogs a Top-20 class nationally.
Chris Jans attracting big-time post talent to Starkville
Mississippi State is starting to load up on high-level talent in the paint under Chris Jans. Last season the Bulldogs landed 4-star EJ Paymon, who was also the top basketball prospect in Mississippi. Now with Jamarion Davis-Fleming committed, State is starting to ramp up their recruiting of post players.
That makes sense after the success Tolu Smith had the last two seasons playing for Jans. The Bulldogs ran much of their team through Smith, and while they're definitely going to take a different approach offensively this season with talent available in the backcourt, the recent history is no doubt attractive to prospects.
If Chris Jans can get to the point of pairing a dominant big man with strong perimeter scorers, Mississippi State basketball will become a true threat.
Mississippi State basketball has owned in-state recruiting
MSU continues to dominant basketball recruiting in the state of Mississippi. As Robbie Faulk of On3 pointed out, State has now signed Mississippi's top prospect nine out of the last 11 years, including each of the last four.
Mississippi State has always been the premier college basketball program in this state, and it shows on the recruiting trail. The best in Mississippi choose to wear Maroon and White.
