The offseason had grown quiet for Mississippi State basketball in terms of additions to the roster. Though Josh Hubbard's withdrawal from the NBA Draft and return to Starkville was massive news, it had been a month since State had picked up a commitment.
With two roster spots left to fill, the Bulldogs were still in search of pieces to round out the 2025-2026 roster. Good things come to those who wait though, as Chris Jans went overseas to find another addition to his 2025 signing class, and he came away an outstanding athlete for his frontcourt.
Slovenian forward Sergej Macura commits to Mississippi State Bulldogs
Mississippi State added a commitment from Slovenian forward Sergej Macura. The 6-9 21-year old currently plays professionally for Serbian basketball club BC Mega. Macura represented his country in the 2023 U19 World Cup and delivered a breakout performance, averaging 12.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists.
Raw athleticism is what shines through with Macura. He excels at getting downhill and thrives above the rim, throwing down highlight reel dunks with regularity. He's also a pullup shooter with the ability to play as a wing or stretch four with a smooth three-point stroke. That versatility makes him a huge addition to the class, one that could make an impact right away.
Mississippi State's 2025 basketball signing class only gets stronger
Chris Jans' 2025 signing class is by far his best to this point. It ranks No. 12 nationally according to 247 Sports with four 4-star commitments. That includes a pair of Top 100 national players in guard King Grace and center Tee Bartlett, both of whom should have the chance to contribute immediately in Starkville.
The class is now even stronger with the addition of Sergej Macura. He's as athletic as anyone the Bulldogs have in their front court, and that's going to give him the chance to play a valuable role on in Starkville this season. Macura is yet another highly-talented piece in the class, a class that could prove to provide Mississippi State will an outstanding core group of players in these next few seasons.
