A positive update for Mississippi State on the morning of the Egg Bowl, starting safety Isaac Smith is off the injury report and active for Black Friday's rivalry matchup in Starkville. The junior had been questionable on prior reports leading up to the game after missing State's last game at Missouri, but he is now set to take the field. Smith, who led the SEC in tackles in 2024, has totaled 51 tackles this season to go along with 1 sack, 1 interception, and 3 passes broken up. He's a key piece to the Bulldog defense both in terms of covering the middle of the field and stopping the run, so having him against Ole Miss is big for Mississippi State.
Mississippi State running back serving first half suspension against Ole Miss in Egg Bowl
The Bulldogs will be without a key player for the first half of the Egg Bowl. RB Davon Booth is serving a first half suspension against the Rebels. Booth has averaged better than 72 all-purpose yards per game and scored nine total touchdowns. Backs Fluff Bothwell and Xavier Gayten will carry a bigger load to start the game.
