Game time and TV channel for Mississippi State soccer's first round NCAA Tournament match with Southern
Mississippi State soccer's first round NCAA Tournament match couldn't have come at a better time. Bulldog football is on a bye week, making soccer the only show in town this weekend. State will face off with Southern Saturday, November 16, at 5:00 PM CT in Starkville. For those who can't be in attendance, the game will be broadcast through streaming on ESPN+. Do note, ESPN+ is a subscription-based service that is separate from standard ESPN programming. You can access ESPN+ through the ESPN app.
Mississippi State soccer is a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament
Bulldog soccer has had a historic year. Coming off back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and a Sweet 16 run in 2023, they've recorded a program-record 17 wins, went a perfect 10-0 in SEC play to capture the SEC regular season championship, and enter the 2024 tournament as a 1-seed for the first time in program history. Mississippi State is an elite defensive team, owning the nation's highest shutout percentage and allowing the second-fewest total goals of any team. They are a bona fide national championship contender.
Southern is making their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance
The Southern Jaguars captured the SWAC Tournament championship to make their first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Southern is 9-9-1 on the season. The Jaguars have been outscored 15 to 26 on the season, and teams have more than doubled them up in terms of shots on goal.
Mississippi State vs Southern score prediction
Southern found ways to win in the SWAC Tournament, so they've got some momentum. But despite a rocky showing from the Bulldogs in the SEC Tournament, they're the far better team here. State should be able to get this win with relative ease.
Mississippi State wins 5-0
