Mississippi State football has the nation talking after their wild win over defending Big 12-champion Arizona State on Saturday night. Not only was it a crazy game, but the environment in Starkville is getting plenty of buzz. From an impressive field-storming to the cowbell-created chaos, college football media were blown-away by what they saw.
Mississippi State fans tore down the goalposts in record time
It'd been a long time since the field was properly stormed in Starkville, and Bulldog fans made the absolute most of it. The goalposts went down and were paraded out of the stadium.

I'm not sure where they ended up, but the real story is how quickly they got them down. I mean it was mere seconds after the game ended that the students had the goalposts on their shoulders. Folks were impressed with the effort from the Bulldog faithful...
And in record time. They had that thing down like it was made of balsa wood. Some pent-up enthusiasm at Miss State.

So how exactly did the goalposts get taken down so quickly. Well, we do have a lot of engineers in the fanbase...

The atmosphere in Starkville garnered national attention
Beyond just being impressed with State fans' enthusiasm to rip down the goalposts, the overall atmosphere in Starkville received plenty of praise. After the game Scott Van Pelt and Stanford Steve had Dave Flemming, who called the game, on their podcast, and they were collectively blown away by how wild the environment was inside Davis Wade Stadium.
Not many places better than Starkville at its peak 🔥🔥@HailStateFB pic.twitter.com/8axbBS73Br

When Davis Wade gets rocking, it's as intimidating an atmosphere as you can find in the sport. Just look at how it got to Arizona State QB Sam Leavitt. It doesn't always get talked about as a great stadium, but for this game, national media gave Davis Wade its due.
Davis Wade Stadium may be on the small side in the SEC but when Mississippi State is winning and those cowbells are clanging it's as loud as any of the others.

Fun to see Starkville alive tonight for the upset. There’s few louder and more energized environments in the whole sport. And that placed looked wild. https://t.co/xDC12ittnO

And the moment of course made it so much better. State fans have been desperate for a breakthrough, and all that built-up passion resulted in a crazy atmosphere and party in Starkville. As Barstool's Jack Mac pointed out, it was the place to be on Saturday night.
If I had to pick one place to be in America tonight it would be Starkville, Mississippi.

Nothing beats an SEC stadium/town on the night of the first big win in a decade.
A top sporting moment you can experience.
Mississippi State fans deserved to see this win
Some may wonder why an SEC school would be storming the field for a win over a Big 12 team that's "only" ranked 12th. Why are fans going that crazy for a win that many others wouldn't consider special?
Well, you've got to consider what this program has been through. A little less than three years ago, Mississippi State lost beloved HC Mike Leach. Since his tragic an unexpected passing, the program had experienced a steady decline, bottoming-out to a 2-10 season in 2024.
It's been a rough few years for this program, and for the first time in a long time, Bulldog football has something to be happy about. After all State fans have been through, they deserved to go crazy for this win.
Mississippi State deserves this more than any team in the history of sports

Catching up on everything from yesterday, and I truly do not think it’s exaggerating to say that there isn’t a fanbase/program that deserved last night more. So happy for State fans who not only got to experience this but witnessed a massive step forward last night 🔔 https://t.co/EdM0rnsDuo

It’s been a while since Mississippi State has been able to party like this after a football game. Been a tough, emotional last few years in Starkville after Mike Leach’s death. Jeff Lebby told me he had a group of guys who were hungry and eager to bring some joy back to the…

Finally, Mississippi State fans got to see their program in the spotlight, and that's worth going wild for. And this doesn't have to be the peak. This is a win the program can continue building off of. There's momentum behind the Bulldogs now, and it's going to be fun to watch them going forward.
