Bulldog fans rejoice! Mississippi State brings back legendary logo for 2025

For at least one game, State fans are getting their wish. But will this become a full-time change?

If there's one thing Mississippi State fans have made perfectly clear on social media lately, it's that they're ready for a specific logo to make its return to Starkville. The interlocking "MSU" was the logo of Bulldog football throughout the 90s and early-2000s, a period that saw plenty of all-time great wins and seasons for the program.

The logo went away following the 2003 season, as the program's branding took a different direction. For years, fans begged to see it return, and two decades later, it was worn once more in Starkville as part of throwback uniforms to honor the 1998 SEC West champion team.

That one-off appearance in 2023 was not enough for State fans, and they've clamored to make the interlocking "MSU" the program's full-time logo since. In recent months, those pleas have been been even louder.

Well, it seems Mississippi State is listening...

On September 27 when the Bulldogs host Tennessee, they'll wear white helmets featuring the interlocking "MSU" for a whiteout game to honor the 2000 "Snow Bowl" team.

The 2000 Independence Bowl is considered one of the greatest games in Mississippi State history. The Bulldogs defeated Texas A&M 43-41, a thrilling overtime victory to cap-off an unprecedented run for the program under Jackie Sherrill. Making the game even more legendary was the fact that it occurred in a rare snowstorm in Shreveport, LA while the Bulldogs wore alternate all-white uniforms, including white helmets for the first time since the early-70s.

The "Snow Bowl", as it's been known since, is a game that holds a special place in the hearts of many of the Maroon and White faithful, and now 25 years later, Coach Sherrill and the players who took the field that snowy night in Shreveport will get the chance to be honored in Starkville.

It'll be much warmer this time around, but with a whiteout crowd and these gorgeous throwback helmets, the scene will feel familiar.

Push for Mississippi State to make interlocking "MSU" logo permanent will only get stronger

As of right now, the return of the interlocking "MSU" is officially just for the Bulldogs' home game with Tennessee. But there's no chance Bulldog fans are going to be ok with that.

Ever since the logo first made it's return two years ago, a large percentage of the fanbase has made it clear that's the logo they want to see on the helmet. Now that they're being given the look again, it's going to be nearly impossible to not, at a minimum, make it a part of the regular rotation. People will revolt otherwise.

Mississippi State's athletics department has proven in the last few years that they're willing to listen to the fanbase when it comes to making moves to improve their enjoyment on gamedays. They're displaying that again by bringing back the interlocking "MSU", but folks won't be pleased if this was nothing more than a tease once again.
