Mississippi State football has a massive opportunity awaiting them on Saturday night. The No. 12 Arizona State Sun Devils come to Starkville for a huge early season matchup that could prove to be a launching point for the Bulldog program, not just this season but for the future.
There's expected to be a good crowd in attendance at Davis Wade Stadium, perhaps the best in quite some time, and that means that the cowbells will be out in full force to rally the Bulldogs and traumatize the visitors. And as we know, when a sea of 50,000 cowbells get clanging, it creates an atmosphere unlike anything else in college football.
Knowing what awaits them, Arizona State is practicing with cowbells in mind...and in hand. Sun Devil coaches and staffers were seen ringing cowbells during their Tuesday practice to try and get their team used to the noise. But by the looks of things, they don't seem to fully understand what they're getting themselves into...

Yeah, those sad little party-favor bells don't come anywhere close to mimicking the cacophony of clanging that will roar out from the bleachers of Davis Wade on Saturday night. If this is how they're trying to get ready for this game, then the Sun Devils are in for a rude, and deafening, awakening.
Mississippi State trolls Arizona State over practicing for cowbells
Mississippi State had some fun with the footage coming out of Tempe. The university's official "X" account showed what we mean when we say "More Cowbell."

Maybe now Arizona State gets the idea.
Now there are some who may be quick to argue that Mississippi State's home record hasn't been overly impressive in recent years and suggest that means it's not a tough place to play. But there's some important context there that, well, the Bulldogs have been pretty terrible recently. It doesn't matter how loud your stadium is when you don't field a competitive team.
The last time the Bulldogs actually had a good team in 2022, they went 7-1 at home with the only loss coming to eventual-national champion Georgia. And just two years ago a 5-7 State team beat a 10-win Arizona team during a night game at Davis Wade.
The fact is, when Davis Wade is packed out with an energized fanbase, it becomes an electric environment and a torture chamber for visiting teams. And for the first time in a while, Mississippi State fans are energized for their football program. Will that atmosphere be enough to propel the Bulldogs to an upset? We'll have to wait and see, but it should be a fun scene in Starkville this weekend.
