As the Mississippi State football program enters a new era, an experienced presence from the Bulldogs offensive line enters the transfer portal.

Jeff Lebby is continuing to build (and rebuild) the Mississippi State football program and his recruiting prowess is why some MSU football fans are excited. Theoretically speaking, Lebby’s experience helping Lane Kiffin rebuild Ole Miss and also his experience helping Brent Venables rebuild Oklahoma should help get the rebuild in Starkville moving along.

But with this new era of college football comes the double edged sword that is the transfer portal. Lebby should conceivably be able to pull talent out of the portal and bring it into the Mississippi State football program. That said, Lebby will also need to keep his head on a swivel and try to keep talent from leaving MSU.

And so, unless something is going on with Lebby and Steven Losoya, a longtime starter on the offensive line for the Mississippi State Bulldogs, bringing Losoya back to Starkville seems like a pretty good idea.

That’s right, Losoya, after starting 34 games with the Bulldogs, has put his name in the transfer portal.

It would be far from ideal for a first time head coach entering into his first year and trying to take over a rebuilding situation to lose someone with as much experience playing in the SEC like Losoya.

So, hopefully Lebby will be able to get Losoya back withe the Bulldogs for this upcoming season.

But, should Losoya leave Mississippi State football in hopes of playing somewhere else next year, hopefully he’s able to find a home where he’s comfortable and can thrive. He deserves the opportunity to chart his own course and figure out what’s next.

And hopefully that’s in Starkville, Mississippi helping Lebby get things turned around (if that’s best for everyone involved, that is).
