As Zac Selmon looks for his next Mississippi State football coach, the Bulldogs have some candidates lined up who really don’t seem all that exciting.
The Mississippi State football team still needs a new coach. The Bulldogs are in the midst of searching for one. But as MSU looks around at head coaching options for them, there are some names that have come up that wouldn’t really be all that exciting of a hire for MSU.
That’s not to say they’re bad coaches. I don’t necessarily think that. I just don’t know how much of a fit any of these guys would be necessarily.
Right now, Mississippi State needs an exciting hire that could provide some stability and have a clear vision for developing this program. It seems like a reset button has been hit on the program and there’s some rebuilding to do.
Good thing MSU has been making some moves on the NIL front.

But as MSU searches for a head coach, are they going to find one that’s going to improve things? Or will things continue to stagnate and still be stale?
The university needs a successful football program to generate revenue, help with student enrollment and retention trends, and market the university as a whole. This is a hire that is pretty big.
And there are three names that I’ve seen come up that don’t really excite me.
Again, I don’t think any of these coaches are necessarily bad coaches. I definitely don’t think they’re bad people. I just don’t think that any of these hires would make me thrilled about watching Mississippi State football next season.
And here’s why:
